About the company Eye Hope Clinic is a trusted pediatric eye care practice in Miami led by board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist Dr. Zenia P. Aguilera. With over 30 years of experience, we specialize in the early detection and treatment of complex childhood visual disorders, including congenital cataracts, strabismus, and amblyopia. We operate a highly efficient, fast-paced clinic utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to deliver precise, compassionate care to our patients and their families. Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Ophthalmic Technician Assistant with at least 2 years of clinical experience. You will work directly with the clinical team to gather diagnostic data, assist with pediatric testing, and maintain exam room turnover. This role requires a highly adaptable professional who can seamlessly rotate through different clinical and administrative stations to support the doctor and ensure smooth patient flow in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities Cross-Functional Rotation:
Actively rotate across different clinical roles (testing, intake, room prep, and patient flow) throughout the day to eliminate bottlenecks and adapt to the clinic's immediate needs.
Clinical Testing:
Perform pediatric diagnostic tests, including visual acuity (age-appropriate methods), ocular motility/alignment, tonometry (iCare/Tonopen), color vision, and depth perception.
Patient Intake:
Obtain accurate patient histories and document them precisely in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Clinical Support:
Administer ophthalmic drops (e.g., for dilation) and monitor timing/response. Capture ophthalmic images (OCT, fundus photography) as required.
Operational Flow:
Prepare and turn over exam rooms quickly. Ensure all equipment is clean, calibrated, and ready for use to mathematically reduce patient wait times.
Inventory:
Maintain clinical supplies and communicate reordering needs to the administrative team.
Requirements & Competencies:
Strict Attendance Policy:
Must be highly reliable for all scheduled shifts. We require a minimum of 12 hours' advance notice for any scheduling changes. Chronic absenteeism or last-minute call-outs will not be tolerated.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in an ophthalmology or optometry clinic. Prior pediatric experience is a strong plus.
Adaptability:
Must be willing and able to cross-train and shift responsibilities on the fly to support the clinic's daily operational demands.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. COA or COT certification is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in tonometry, lensometry, keratometry, visual field testing, OCT/fundus photography, and A-scan biometry.
System Knowledge:
Strong familiarity with medical/ophthalmic terminology and efficient EHR data entry.
Language:
Fluency in both English and Spanish is strongly preferred. Benefits Competitive Pay ($23.00/hr) Medical & Vision Benefits Paid Time Off (PTO) Holiday Pay & Sick Pay Benefits eligibility begins after the 1st month of training. This position is subject to a 90-day probationary period.
