They also perform eye exams, check glasses prescriptions, and talk with the doctor about your eyes. Technicians are also wonderful resources. They may give you information and tips about managing eye conditions. Ophthalmic technicians are not nurses, but per the doctor's direction, they may give information and tips about managing eye conditions. The technicians work closely with every member of the clinic staff. They are truly the "glue" that keeps the clinic together.
Work Schedule:
Full Time Days Responsibilities:
  • Under the direct supervision of eye care provider, assists with performing patient care. Demonstrate proficiency in performing ophthalmic core competencies.
  • Performs basic ophthalmic testing procedures, diagnostic testing, administration of medications and tasks delegated by the eye care provider.
  • Assists with minor procedures and prescription refill process under the direction of provider.
  • Performs documentation, patient education and enters charges. Assists with the flow of patient care.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements:
    Minimum Required Education:
    High School diploma or GED.
    • One year of specialized ophthalmic experience is desirable or completion of on-the-job training program upon hiring.
    Preferred requirements:
    Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) credential preferred.
