Job Description
The Optometric Technician performs preliminary testing for physicians and dispenses and orders contact lenses. Responsibilities/Duties Perform preliminary and special testing for physicians Gathers exam focused, comprehensive histories Dispense, clean, and order contact lenses. Instruct patients in wearing and care of contact lenses. Keep records of contact lenses dispensed and received in order to review bills or approve payments for devices. Assist in the optical dispensary when necessary Minimum Education Requirements High school diploma or GED Previous experience or training in this or similar position. Minimum Background Requirements Position requires good understanding of optometric practice and patient care. Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed. Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical. Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time. Physical Demands Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to write legibly. Must be able to communicate via phone. Must have manual dexterity to work with optical tools. Must be able to read and enter data into the computer
