Role:
The Retina Technician at Retina & Vitreous of Louisiana is responsible for daily patient care, clinic flow, and daily clinic activities. The position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care. Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage is preferred. The ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment are required. Communication with patients, co-workers, and doctors is critical. Candidates must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall patient satisfaction and operational efficiency of the practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software. Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician or similar credential. Experience working in Ophthalmology or specialty medical practices. Advanced computer skills including documentation in electronic health record software.
Responsibilities:
Efficiently and accurately interview patients and document histories. Working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular meds. Accurately enter and update patient demographic and medical information in the electronic health record system. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, coordinating with doctors and front office staff as needed. Answer patient phone messages, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate personnel. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations in handling patient information. Utilize proper sterile techniques and universal precaution procedures. Understand and communicate well to patients about procedures being performed.

Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and healthcare providers, facilitating clear and compassionate exchanges. Problem-solving abilities aide in addressing patient concerns efficiently. Attention to detail is critical, along with the ability to display consistent professionalism, positive rapport, cooperation, and flexibility in job assignment.
