Job Summary and Essential Job Duties The Optical Coating Support (Beadblast) Technician position provides critical support to the coating production team through various pre- and post-coating processes. Through On the Job Training (OJT), the Optical Coating Support (Beadblast) Technician will: Prepare vacuum coating machines for optical coating processes; Operate beadblast equipment in accordance with prescribed method in order to remove surface contaminants and impart proper surface finish Clean and store metal fixtures in preparation for use in optical coating processes Maintain adequate supply of bead in beadblasting equipment Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition Perform a variety of other tasks following additional training and competency as required by position Advancement through the Optics Coating Support Technician ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.
Education Requirements:
A High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational training in manufacturing, carpentry, materials science, machining (or similar) strongly desired but not required.
Minimum Requirements:
Excellent communication skills Ability to follow directions and prioritize with attention to detail Ability to work in a challenging, fast paced environment with good time management skills Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving Familiarity with computers to include but not limited to
Microsoft Office Other Skills and Experience:
Ability to collect and interpret data Strong multi-tasking skills Initiative and mental concentration to learn new skills and techniques
Work Requirements:
Physical Demands:
Frequently standing for prolonged periods of time (6-7 hours/day); Bending/reaching/loading/unloading and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.); Gripping of parts. No PPE is required; however, face masks, ear plugs, and safety glasses are provided and encouraged.
Work Environment:
This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies. May involve the use of chemicals and solvents. Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such. May require area specific safety training. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes .
