Schedule:

Monday-Friday, Day Shift SUMMARY Responsible for daily patient care and flow. Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care, knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed, an ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment required. Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical. Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care. Manages patient flow. Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular meds. Obtains a thorough medical, ocular, and social history and chief complaint from the patient. Obtains visual acuity both at distance and near. Obtains or performs ocular motility, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, and neutral-density glasses. Performs basic color vision screening using the Ishihara or Farnsworth D-15 color vision test. Performs specialized visual acuity testing, including a brightness acuity tester (BAT) and a potential acuity meter (PAM).

Performs imaging using diagnostic equipment:

Fundus photography, external photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Optomap Ultra-wide field. Performs diagnostic testing using the following diagnostic equipment: Humphrey Visual Field, Corneal Topography, Lenstar, IOL Master, Specular Microscopy, Pachymetry, and Auto-refractor. Measure the patient's intraocular pressure using either the Goldman tonometer, Perkins tonometer or Tonopen. Administers eye drops to patients in accordance with provider instructions, utilizing proper eye drop techniques and sterility. Clean, stock and prepare exam rooms. Maintain, clean and sterilize ophthalmic instruments. Maintains and cleans all equipment being utilized and reports if not in working condition. Maintains patient confidentiality. Comply with all HIPPA requirements. Performs other duties assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred experience in an ambulatory medical setting but not required. Ability to work in a team environment. Friendly, courteous, and patient service-oriented Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 24 months of hire preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light - Clinical - Light clinical roles involve frequent standing and walking, with occasional lifting of light objects (≤20 lbs.) and routine reaching, grasping, and fine manipulation for tasks such as patient care, laboratory work, or specimen processing. Staff rely on strong visual and auditory acuity to accurately observe specimens, read instrumentation, monitor patients, respond to alarms, and communicate effectively with care teams. Cognitive demands include multitasking, prioritizing clinical and laboratory workflows, and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Emotional resilience is necessary due to frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and the need for precise and compassionate interaction with patients and colleagues. Environmental exposures may include infectious materials, biological specimens, cleaning agents, sharps, chemical reagents, and wet surfaces. PPE use, TB testing, and schedule flexibility are commonly required.

PAY RANGE

$20.00 - $28.00 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
