Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our eye care team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in ophthalmic patient care, medical office procedures, and diagnostic testing. As an integral part of our clinic, the Optometric Technician will support optometrists by preparing patients for examinations, operating specialized ophthalmic equipment, and ensuring a seamless patient experience. Responsibilities Prepare patients for eye examinations by obtaining comprehensive intake information and reviewing medical histories. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including tonometry devices, OCT, topography, visual fields and Optos cameras to gather accurate diagnostic data. Assist with ophthalmic patient examinations by performing preliminary tests like EOM's, pupils, and visual acuity assessments under supervision. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy at all times. Manage electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems) efficiently, ensuring accurate documentation of patient encounters and test results. Provide exceptional patient service by addressing questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring a comfortable environment for all patients. Assist with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and ensure proper operation of medical equipment in accordance with safety standards. Contribute to a positive clinic atmosphere by collaborating effectively with team members and supporting front desk operations when needed. Qualifications Prior experience working in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics. Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic diagnostics. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Compulink or similar platforms for managing patient records efficiently. Experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including tonometers, OCT, Optos and visual field analyzers. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and clinical confidentiality policies. Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with diverse populations, including pediatric patients. Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and support direct patient care activities. Basic optical experience or retail sales background is advantageous for understanding optical products and patient needs related to eyewear. Knowledge of medical billing or coding is a plus but not required; willingness to learn is appreciated.
