Ophthalmic Technician Huntington Beach, CA Job Details Full-time $21 - $24 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Spanish Patient flow optimization Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Electronic health records (EHR) management Maintaining patient confidentiality Ophthalmology HIPAA English Mid-level Diagnostic evaluation High school diploma or GED Certified Ophthalmic Technician Optical coherence tomography (OCT) Patient interaction Typing Phone triage Patient charting Patient education Full Job Description The Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for the work up, education and follow up of current and potential patients.
Essential Functions:

Ability to interact and communicate in a professional demeanor with patients, doctors, and staff. Accurately communicate pertinent information to patients. Complete all necessary workups including obtaining medical and surgical history, and the completion of all diagnostic testing. Prioritize and maintain efficient patient/doctor workflow. Accurate pre-testing according to office policy and procedures. Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate office staff. Assist in minor procedures. Prepare patients for additional laser procedures (blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, SLT). Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians. In office and telephonic patient education and ensure its appropriately documented in patient's chart. Follow HIPPA guidelines to maintain strict patient confidentiality. Cross train in back and front office procedures. Help maintain back-office inventory/supplies. Accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, Corneal Topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and additional diagnostic testing. This is an in-office position; remote work is not available. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or its equivalent is required. 2+ years' experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferred Ability to type 45 wpm. Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred. Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred. Experience in Medical scribing preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to type 45 wpm. Exceptional attention to detail. Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative. Work Environment This job operates in a professional, fast-passed, medical clinic environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets, and interacts with both staff and patents. Physical Demands The employee is required to stand and use both hands for typing for extended periods of time; Walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl periodically. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day shifts with occasional overtime as required. Travel This position may require up to 50% travel. Travel to multiple clinic locations, which are located throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County, will be required throughout the week, and at times on short notice.
