Job Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Medical Assistant specializing in optometry! In this vital role, you will be the cornerstone of patient care, ensuring smooth clinical operations and delivering exceptional service to patients seeking vision and eye health solutions. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in ophthalmology, medical procedures, and patient interaction while supporting a busy optometry practice. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with intake procedures to ensure accurate and complete medical records. Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary tests, including vision screenings and ocular assessments. Assist the optometrist during eye exams, including setting up equipment and ensuring aseptic technique is maintained throughout all procedures. Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Eyefinity EHR or similar platforms to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently. Educate patients on eye health, treatment options, and proper use of corrective lenses or medications. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, handling patient inquiries, and managing medical billing or coding tasks related to ophthalmology services. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times. Qualifications Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong background in patient care and clinical support. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining patient confidentiality. Familiarity with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and aseptic techniques within a healthcare environment. Prior optical or ophthalmology experience is highly preferred, including familiarity with eye anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health. Ability to operate EMR systems such as Eyefinity EHR or other electronic health record platforms efficiently. Strong understanding of medical coding and billing processes specific to optometry or ophthalmology clinics. Excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse patient populations at front desk or during clinical interactions. Retail sales experience is a plus for assisting with eyewear sales or product recommendations while maintaining professionalism.
