Fakhri Retina PLLC is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Bilingual Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team. The Ophthalmic Technician will assist the physician with patient care, perform ophthalmic testing and clinical workups, prepare patients for examinations and procedures, and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish , have excellent communication skills, demonstrate professionalism with patients and coworkers, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced retina specialty practice.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care Greet and room patients in a professional and compassionate manner. Obtain and document patient medical, ocular, medication, and surgical history. Obtain and document visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and other preliminary measurements. Perform patient workups prior to physician examination. Assist patients with mobility and positioning as needed. Explain testing and procedures to patients in an easy-to-understand manner. Provide clear instructions to patients regarding testing, treatments, and follow-up appointments. Serve as a Spanish-language interpreter for patients when needed. Ophthalmic Testing Perform OCT and other retinal imaging/testing as directed. Perform visual field testing and other diagnostic testing within the technician's training and scope. Assist with fundus photography and other ophthalmic imaging. Prepare patients for dilation and physician examination. Ensure testing is completed accurately and appropriately documented. Recognize and communicate abnormal or urgent findings to the physician or appropriate clinical staff. Procedure and Injection Support Prepare examination and procedure rooms. Assist the physician with in-office ophthalmic procedures and intravitreal injections as directed. Maintain appropriate room setup and supplies. Follow infection-control, sterilization, and safety procedures. Prepare and maintain procedure supplies and equipment. Assist with documenting medications, procedures, and treatment information in the EMR. Electronic Medical Records Accurately document patient information and testing results in Nextech Practice Plus EMR. Enter and update medication lists, allergies, medical history, and other patient information. Ensure all required clinical information is documented before the physician sees the patient. Maintain accurate and complete clinical records. Assist with clinical tasks, orders, and documentation as assigned. Patient Communication Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and family members. Provide instructions in both English and Spanish when appropriate. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Answer basic clinical questions within the technician's scope and appropriately direct medical questions to the physician or clinical staff. Demonstrate patience and empathy when working with elderly, visually impaired, or anxious patients.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination rooms. Monitor ophthalmic supplies and notify management when supplies need to be reordered. Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment according to office procedures. Follow all practice policies and procedures. Assist other clinical and front-office staff when needed. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Protect patient privacy and confidential information at all times. Perform other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager or physician.QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Fluent in English and Spanish , both verbally and in patient communication. High school diploma or equivalent. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document information. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical office. Professional, dependable, punctual, and compassionate. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements. Comfortable working with computers and electronic medical records.Preferred:
Previous ophthalmic technician or ophthalmology experience. Experience working in a retina practice. Experience with OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, or other ophthalmic testing. Experience with Nextech or another ophthalmology-specific EMR. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or related certification.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday. Ability to sit for periods of time while documenting patient information. Ability to assist patients with positioning and mobility when necessary. Ability to lift and move routine office and clinical supplies. Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment and computer systems. Ability to work in a clinical environment for extended periods.PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
