Job Description

Overview Join our multidisciplinary healthcare team as an Optometric Technician/Medical Assistant, where your enthusiasm and dedication will directly enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. We are a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to working with patients of all ages with vision and cognitive dysfunction with traumatic and acquired brain injury and developmental dysfunction. Our office combines advanced diagnostic technology with a strong commitment to service, creating an environment that feels both clinical and welcoming. Position Overview We are seeking a Full-Time (32-40hours) detail-oriented and personable Optometric Technician/Medical Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for someone interested in healthcare who enjoys working directly with patients in a professional setting providing care they can't find anywhere else. Prior experience is preferred, but we are happy to train the right individual with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. In this vital role, you will support eye care professionals, occupational therapy and physical therapy by assisting with diagnostic procedures, helping with clinic flow, and managing medical records/authorizations with precision. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will contribute to a positive patient experience and efficient clinic workflow. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and facilitate smooth intake/outtake processes while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality policies Guide patients through a smooth, efficient exam process Assist the doctor during exams and procedures including advanced testing like tonometry, visual field testing, OCT testing and eye-tracking assessments (we can train you how to use these if no experience before) Operate medical equipment accurately, including slit lamps, autorefractors, and other ophthalmic devices, adhering to aseptic techniques Manage electronic health records (EHR) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems efficiently to document patient information and clinical notes Supportive front desk duties by scheduling follow up appointments, managing patient flow, and handling medical records with meticulous attention to detail Uphold clinical confidentiality policies during all patient interactions and documentation processes Collaborate with the healthcare team on pediatrics cases or specialized clinics requiring specific knowledge of anatomy and physiology Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and equipment Aid with scheduling patients and helping some diagnostic procedures for clinical research projects the clinic is running Experience Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred Knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding, billing procedures, and healthcare compliance standards such as HIPAA is essential Hands-on experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment like A-scan devices and tonometers is advantageous Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing electronic health data Background in retail sales or customer service roles that involve direct patient or client interaction is a plus Understanding of anatomy related to the eye and physiology enhances your ability to assist effectively in clinical assessments Experience working with pediatric patients or in clinics specializing in pediatrics can be beneficial What We're Looking For Strong attention to detail (accuracy is critical in this role) Friendly, professional demeanor with strong communication skills Ability to stay focused and efficient in a fast-paced setting Reliable, punctual, and accountable Comfortable learning new technology and processes quickly Experience in optometry or healthcare is a plus, but not required Paid training for the right candidate Participate in mandatory monthly staff meetings Abide by all policies and procedures stated in our employee manual
Physical/Mental Demands:
Must be capable of undergoing an extensive 90 day training period Must make attendance a priority and be able to work 32-40 hours a week Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching and stretching Ability to move quickly throughout the office and aid patients with ambulatory needs to get from the waiting room to the exam room safely Ability to stand for extended time Embark on a meaningful career path where your skills make a difference every day.
