Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optical Assistant/Receptionist, where you will be the friendly face and efficient coordinator at the forefront of patient care. Duties Greet patients warmly upon arrival, verify appointments, and manage check-in/check-out procedures using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Epic. Schedule appointments for ophthalmology consultations, laboratory tests, and optical services while coordinating with clinical staff to optimize patient flow. Assist with patient intake by collecting vital signs, updating medical records, and documenting medical history with attention to medical terminology and anatomy knowledge. Support ophthalmic procedures by preparing exam rooms, maintaining aseptic technique, and assisting with optical tests such as refraction or visual acuity assessments. Manage patient communications efficiently via phone and email, providing information on clinic services, insurance requirements including HIPAA compliance, and appointment reminders. Handle billing and coding processes related to medical records, medical billing, and insurance claims to ensure accurate reimbursement. Maintain laboratory experience by assisting with specimen collection or processing as needed while adhering to safety protocols. Qualifications Prior experience in ophthalmology or optical clinics is highly desirable; familiarity with EMR systems like Epic is a plus. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and laboratory procedures relevant to eye care. Demonstrated ability to manage medical records accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Experience in retail sales or retail management can be beneficial for understanding customer service dynamics. Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment. Knowledge of vital signs measurement, medical coding, and basic clinical procedures such as aseptic technique is preferred.
