The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in optical services, retail sales, and patient care, with a comprehensive understanding of ophthalmology principles and medical terminology. As a Licensed Optician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with selecting eyewear, fitting lenses, and ensuring optimal visual outcomes while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise in optical and medical environments, contributing to improved patient satisfaction and eye health. Responsibilities Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences, utilizing retail sales skills. Take precise measurements for lens fitting, including pupillary distance and frame adjustments, ensuring comfort and accuracy. Conduct preliminary assessments such as vital signs and basic eye exams when necessary, supporting ophthalmology evaluations. Maintain detailed medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Operate optical laboratory equipment and perform laboratory tasks such as lens edging, mounting, and quality control to produce accurate prescriptions. Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals using EMR systems like Epic to document patient interactions effectively. Manage inventory of optical products, including frames, lenses, and accessories, utilizing retail math skills for stock control and ordering. Provide excellent customer service by educating patients on lens options, medical terminology related to eye health, and proper eyewear maintenance. Support clinic operations by adhering to aseptic techniques during equipment handling and assisting with clinic flow management for senior care patients. Qualifications Valid licensure as an Optician with Florida or national certification demonstrating compliance with licensing requirements. Proven experience in optical retail sales combined with clinic or ophthalmology setting exposure is highly desirable. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy of the eye, and medical terminology related to ophthalmology is essential for effective patient communication. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used in healthcare environments. Laboratory experience involving lens fabrication techniques including edging, mounting, and quality assurance procedures. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times. Ability to interpret prescriptions accurately while applying medical billing practices when necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to educate patients across diverse age groups including pediatrics and senior care populations.
