Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Optical Assistant fills vision correction prescriptions, fits and adapts lenses and frames. Day to day duties include record keeping, accounting, inventory, sales, work order placement and customer service. Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required One (1) year of Sales experience preferred

Proficient computer skills Ability to problem solve Detailed oriented Gain a working knowledge of post-operative Medicare, Medicare Replacement and Medicaid plans Excellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capability Team-oriented Self-directed, highly motivated, able to multi-task, work under pressure in a fast-paced environment Possess a caring, patient and friendly attitude Gain familiarity with all forms associated with the patient's medical record Gain familiarity with the use and operation of optical software Gain knowledge relating to lenses, frames and all optical supplies Sales ability
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet all patients in a friendly manner Provide routine cleaning and adjustment services for patients entering into the practice Educate and assist with the selection of eyewear that is available in the optical department Order jobs from labs according to practice protocols Check-in and document all incoming job orders correctly Collect payment on optical orders Notify the patient in a timely manner when their order is ready to be dispensed Ensure all optical boards and surrounding areas are clean and well stocked at all times File patient insurance claims for glasses Complete paperwork efficiently and accurately to document sales and patient activities Ensure the highest level of customer service and patient satisfaction Process all incoming and outgoing deliveries for FedEx, UPS, etc. Professional and Personal Development/Goals and Objectives Exhibit professional demeanor with a positive attitude when representing the practice Maintain certification, where applicable, and continues to improve skills. Must attend all in-service, webinar training seminars as directed by the Office Team Lead Set goals and objectives for professional growth. Review and revise goals on an ongoing basis Provide input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs and increase revenue for the optical department Customer Service Support the practice core values and mission statement to develop, enhance and promote quality customer service through team effort Exhibit flexibility, sensitivity and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members Maintain practice confidentiality, follow HIPAA guidelines and the rules and regulations of the practice as documented in the practice employee manual Maintain standards of productivity as defined by management Perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job The majority of the time on-the-job is spent walking and sitting At times the job may require weight to be lifted up to 50 pounds The job requires the following types of vision: close, distance, peripheral and depth perception Typical noise level for the work environment of this job is moderate (i.e. business office with computers and printers, light traffic) Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone Hearing must be adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
