Job Description

Our ophthalmology/optometry practice is hiring an Optician! We are looking for a friendly, personable, team player who is highly organized, very detail oriented and looking for a long-term, fulfilling career. This individual is responsible for all aspects of the successful operation of the optical department while providing exceptional customer service to our patients. This individual may also be cross-trained in other areas of our practice.
Essential Skills:
  • Ensuring patients are properly educated regarding their vision prescription and available options.
  • Maintaining appropriate standard of quality, honesty, and patient service.
  • Knowledge of how to use a lensometer.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills.
  • Ordering contact lenses by accurately specifying lens parameters; verifies lens specifications on delivery prior to patient notification; maintains data base of lenses ordered and received.
  • Sales experience; ie: frame styling, lens knowledge Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Insurance verification (medical and vision).
  • Knowledge of medical and vision insurance.
  • Some knowledge of billing (including VSP, Eyemed, DMERC).
  • Knowledge of OfficeMate.
  • Making follow-up phone calls, scheduling appointments, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of ophthalmology/optometry, ie: anatomy, cataracts, etc.
  • Computer literacy.
