The Licensed Optician will support the clinic and the Optometric Physician in the measurement and fitting of glasses, and the education for proper wear and care of patient's glasses and contact lenses.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Obtain patient prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists. Verify accuracy of eyeglass prescriptions. Take customer information and custom measurements of the ocular area. Perform basic vision testing. Recommend frames, lenses, coatings, and contact lenses that suit the customer's style, face, and specifications. Adjusting and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and customer's specifications, as well as to suit the customers' face. Prepare work orders for the optical technicians to use to manufacture the lenses. Verify all orders are within the time guidelines given and inform patients of status if any delays, follow up with associated lab(s) as necessary. Notify patients when orders arrive from a lab or manufacturer. Use specialized equipment, such as calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges. Keep inventory on frames and contact lenses to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction. Repair broken frames. Educate customers on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses. Accurately pull insurance information and evaluate cost to patient when applicable. Maintains basic knowledge of diagnostic coding and CPT procedures codes and third-party reimbursement billing requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality. Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Understanding of medical terminology specifically as related to eye and vision issues. Excellent patient care and communication skills. Strong technology skills and understanding of computer programs. Must be able to operate accurately a manual lensometer.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or Associate's Degree WA State Licensure Optical dispensing experience Minimum of one-year experience working as an Optician strongly preferred HIPAA knowledge preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing and bending. Ability to move about the clinic to complete tasks. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds

Pay:

$21.00 - $27.00 per hour
