Job Description

Job Summary The Optometrist shall provide comprehensive eye care to patients seen in the KHC Eye Clinic, including the diagnosis and management of visual and ocular pathologies through external and internal physical evaluation of the eye and adnexa.
Place of Performance:
Kayenta Health Center.
Period of Performance:
Will be flexible to allow for short term (13 weeks), long term (1-year to 3-year) and, where feasible, include intermittent support to meet unplanned needs that develop on a frequent basis. Duties Treats visual disorders through the prescription of corrective lenses, vision training, and pharmacological means. Uses all forms of topical ophthalmic therapeutic medicines as well as oral therapeutic medicines to manage pathology and trauma. Provides emergency eye care services including diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic trauma and pathology consistent with clinical privileges. Utilizes laboratory and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmologic conditions. Coordinates medical eye care with other physicians within the service unit, when eye disease is concurrent with systemic disease. Examines emergency room patients as requested by attending physicians. Treats unusual visual disorders through the application of advanced optometric techniques. Consults with area ophthalmologist, optometrist, and/or medical practitioners as needed for complex cases. Refers and coordinates contract health care for patients requiring medical, surgical, and/or diagnostic services outside of the Kayenta Service Unit. Follows the KSU Optometry policies and procedures and the Kayenta clinical practice guidelines when relevant. Precept optometry students on a needed basis.
Work Schedule:
Work schedule is Monday-Friday, excluding weekends and Federal Holidays. Qualifications Experience. The candidate shall have one year recent Optometry experience. Licensures. Current optometry license in any state is required. A diagnostic and therapeutic license is required. Current active DEA License. Motor Vehicle Operator's License. If required by the position, the Optometrist shall possess a valid state driver's license throughout the term of this contract. Certifications. Certification in BLS for Healthcare providers is required. Language Requirements and Cultural Awareness. The Optometrist shall read, understand, speak, and write English to effectively communicate with patients and other health care workers, and shall be respectful of the local, American Indian and Alaska Native culture. Information Technology Skills. The Candidate shall possess basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer. EMR/EHR capable.
Pay:
$53.00 - $60.88 per hour
