Responsibilities Perform detailed ophthalmic patient examinations, including visual acuity testing, tonometry, and assessment of vital signs. Utilize ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment to identify and evaluate eye diseases and conditions. Conduct ophthalmic consultations to diagnose issues related to anatomy, physiology, and disease states affecting vision. Fit contact lenses and provide guidance on proper contact lens care and maintenance. Manage disease progression through medical treatment knowledge, patient education, and follow-up care plans. Operate medical equipment safely and accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Maintain comprehensive medical records using EMR/EHR systems, documenting all examinations, diagnoses, treatments, and patient interactions with precision. Communicate effectively with patients to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive measures while ensuring excellent customer service. Collaborate with healthcare professionals for referrals or specialized ophthalmic procedures as needed. Stay current with advancements in optometry practices, medical coding standards, and ophthalmic diagnostic tools to deliver top-tier care. Requirements Valid licensure as an Optometrist within California; TPA preferred. Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry practice settings with familiarity in optical experience preferred. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic diagnosis techniques, disease management, and anatomy/physiology of the eye. Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically across diverse populations including pediatrics. Ability to operate medical equipment such as tonometers and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools accurately. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques necessary for safe practice. Experience fitting contact lenses along with understanding of disease state management strategies is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within a team environment while maintaining attention to detail in record keeping and documentation.
