We are a patient-centered practice that goes beyond routine vision correction to deliver comprehensive medical eye care. Our emphasis is on preventative care, early detection and management of ocular conditions, specialized myopia management for children, and advanced dry eye treatment using cutting-edge technologies. The ideal candidate is passionate about medical optometry and enjoys building long-term relationships with patients through thorough exams and personalized treatment plans. You will play a key role in helping patients achieve optimal vision and ocular health while collaborating in a supportive, modern environment. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive medical eye examinations using advanced diagnostic tools to evaluate visual acuity, refractive status, and overall ocular health, with a strong focus on detecting and managing conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and thyroid eye disease. Specialize in myopia management for pediatric and adolescent patients, including fitting FDA-cleared treatments like orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses, soft multifocal contact lenses, and low-dose atropine drops to slow myopia progression and protect long-term vision. Diagnose and provide customized dry eye treatment plans, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as OptiLight IPL, OptiPLUS, and OptiLIFT to address underlying causes like meibomian gland dysfunction and deliver lasting relief. Prescribe and fit glasses, contact lenses (including specialty scleral and hybrid lenses), and other corrective options while educating patients on proper use and care. Maintain accurate patient records in our EMR system in full compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with our team of optometrists and, when needed, coordinate care with ophthalmologists or other healthcare providers for complex cases. Educate patients and families on eye health, preventive strategies, lifestyle modifications, and at-home dry eye care to promote lifelong ocular wellness. Participate in emergency or urgent eye care visits for issues such as infections, sudden vision changes, or ocular irritation. Stay current with advancements in medical optometry, myopia control, dry eye therapies, and best practices in ocular disease management.
Requirements / Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution and current Virginia Optometry license (or eligibility to obtain one). Strong clinical skills in medical optometry and comprehensive eye exams, with a genuine interest in myopia management and dry eye care. Experience or strong desire to work with pediatric patients and families is highly preferred. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and comfort using advanced diagnostic equipment. Excellent communication and patient education skills, with a compassionate, empathetic approach suitable for patients of all ages. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, medical terminology, and clinical best practices. A team-oriented mindset and commitment to delivering exceptional, holistic patient care.
