Annually the department responds to roughly 600-650 calls per year and provides ALS level ambulance services to a community of approximately 8,500 people within our 18 square mile Fire and EMS district; which also includes roughly 5 miles of Interstate 80, Interstate 235, and Highway 65.
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking currently licensed Paramedics to add to our paid daytime staff. This role is primarily EMS only and includes staffing the fire station with a 2 person EMS crew to provide immediate ambulance response to emergency calls, providing EMS patient care, and ensuring public safety under the direction of the Fire Chief and EMS Captain. An ideal candidate would be a paramedic who's looking to pickup a shift or two each week for a little extra income in a laid back setting. Shifts are Monday thru Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm (10-hours each) and you could expect to run approximately 1-2 calls per day on average. Duties While onShift Include:
- Daily ambulance and medication check-in to start the shift
- Medical emergency response to any calls that come out during your shift
- Administration of basic and advanced life support to patients
- Conducting patient assessments and monitoring patient vital signs
- Transporting patients safely to local downtown medical facilities
- Maintaining and cleaning medical equipment, as necessary
- Patient care report and NERIS report writing
- Basic fire station chores and apparatus cleaning duties (i.e. taking out trash, sweeping/mopping dayroom, washing the ambulance, etc.)
- Completing EMS continuing education requirements
- Occasional public education on first-aid and or fire protection measures
- Performing firefighting duties including rescuing individuals and or assisting in the extinguishment of fires (Only if trained & certified in fire incident response)
Required Experience:
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma and or GED
- Current Paramedic license with
PALS & ACLS
- Valid drivers license and insurable
- Knowledge of advanced life support, first aid, CPR, and ambulance operations
- Proficiency in assessing vital signs and providing emergency medical care
- Ability to perform the occasional heavy lifting
