Job Description
Advertisement Flyer This position performs technical work driving an ambulance, rescuing and transporting the sick and injured, administering emergency medical care, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the EMS Captain and/or EMS Major.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- General knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents
- Thorough knowledge of the street and road system and physical layout of the county
- Skills in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, patients and their families, other emergency service agencies, and the general public
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports Step 1 - Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and three (3) additional job-related certifications Step 2
- High School Diploma or equivalent form an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and four (4) additional job-related certifications OR
- Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and four (4) additional job-related certifications Step 3
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and two (2) years of experience and five (5) additional job-related certifications OR
- Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and five (5) additional job-related certifications OR
- Bachelor's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and five (5) additional job-related certifications Step 4 (Paramedic First Class)
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and three (3) years of experience and (6) job-related certifications OR
- Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and two (2) years of experience and (6) job-related certifications OR

- Current Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) vaccination This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and wearing a respirator; the worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
