A Brief Overview This Paramedic role is based in the Transfer Center at our Management Service Center location in Shaker Heights. Responsible for performing all aspects of the dispatching process ensuring that all requests for service and related activities occur in a timely, safe and accurate fashion.
Position Summary/Essential Duties:
Dispatch of UH air and ground ambulances, support assets, and providing incident support Executes expedient and accurate information exchange, Demonstrating clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations Ability to rapidly develop logical action plans based on information from multiple sources, and the ability to reassess and redeploy the plan when other variables arise Coordination of patient transfer and response requests with field crews, facilities, physicians, other agencies, and hospital patient flow management staff Assures mode of transport selected provides effectiveness and timeliness to optimally meet the patient medical need Manage multiple communication devices such as radios, telephony, email, SMS, and computer chat software, often simultaneously, to communicate with multiple agencies utilizing proper etiquette Possess and obtain working knowledge of external and inter-facility protocols and standards of practice Demonstrates calm and concise decision making skills in managing and activating transport requests Delivering exceptional customer service while facilitating communication across multiple disciplines Knowledge/Experience - Assist patients and health care needs as directed by clinician during Emergency Department visit including performing 12 lead EKGs, blood draws, initiate Hep-locks, bedside point of care testing, aerosol treatments. Ensures the daily completion of point of care testing quality controls, defibrillator checks, refrigerator checks, transports. Performs ABGs and gain IV access as directed by order. Prepares patients and care environment for exam, specimen collection and anticipates needs of patients and providers proactively. Performs delegated basic procedures as described by their annual competency-based tool and orientation program. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education Accredited Program:
Graduated from a state accredited paramedic program (Required) Work Experience Paramedic Experience (Required) Minimum 3 years recent experience in EMS system (Preferred) Transfer Center/Dispatch experience (Preferred) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Able to communicate effectively with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds; able to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency) Medical terminology. (Preferred proficiency) Patient care equipment specific to assigned population, telephone, beeper system, and nurse call system. Three Peer Reviews required for Level II and III Criteria to Promote and Maintain (five for Level II; seven for Level III) Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) State of Ohio Paramedic Certification required. (Required Upon Hire) PALS (exception CMC) (Required within 6 Months) Paramedic Specialty Certification (doesn't include BLS, ACLS, ITLS, PALS, or NRP) ; required for Level
