POSITION SUMMARY
: Full-Time Paramedics are responsible for the delivery and provision of emergency medical care as provided for within the Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services act 37, the current Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of emergency medical services scope of practice, Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of emergency medical services statewide protocols and Lower Allen Township clinical guidelines. Paramedics are responsible for scene management, personnel supervision, and oversight of patient care in accordance with ACT 37. Paramedics are classified as Advanced Life Support providers. Paramedics must have the approval of the Lower Allen Township EMS medical director. Staff will be exposed to all types of extreme weather, disease, and all types of unsafe and hazardous conditions. Personal conduct on duty, as well as off-duty, must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public's trust and the reputation of the EMS Division and the Department of Public Safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Is responsible for advanced life support pre-hospital care. Provides supervision and care of patients in the pre-hospital environment including the utilization of monitor/defibrillators, numerous medications, endotracheal intubation, IV therapy and other associated tasks. Performs critical advanced life support procedures according to medical protocol performs independently in situations involving both basic and advanced life support activities. Directs, Emergency Medical Responders, EMT-Basic technicians, EMT Advanced technicians and rescue personnel in the provision of patient care. Legally, ethically, and morally administer pre-hospital emergency care. Works assigned shifts to include but not limited to day, evening, night, weekends, holidays, with a shift durations of 12, 13, 24 or as assigned. Function independently at an optimum level in a constantly changing environment Adheres to all Lower Allen Township, Lower Allen Township Department of Public Safety and Lower Allen Township EMS policies, procedures, and guidelines. Performs work which may involve strenuous physical tasks, including during hazardous conditions and/or inclement weather. Works seamlessly with both career and volunteer personnel. Functions cohesively as a team with other emergency medical services, police departments, fire departments, allied health professionals, etc. Safely operates emergency ambulances and other light duty response vehicles. Follows all emergency medical services regulations and state medical protocols. Responds to dispatch calls from Cumberland County Control Center drives or rides in ambulance to scene, assesses problem and requests assistance if needed. Effectively communicates with all members of public safety, mutual aid agencies, allied health professionals, dispatchers, and leadership to ensure internal and external cohesiveness. Moves patient by stretcher, reeves' litter, stair chair, scoop stretcher or any other EMS approved lifting and moving device to ambulance. Notifies the hospital of the patient's condition and their medical needs, so that hospital can be prepared for arrival. Transports patients to hospitals by ambulance, providing continuing care until relieved at destination. Punctual, regular attendance is required. Employees are to be equipped and ready for work within fifteen minutes before the required start time for shift changeover. Reports for work in prescribed uniform with good hygiene and personal grooming, maintaining a professional appearance in accordance with policy. Performs station duties and disinfecting of ambulance and equipment as required per policy. Replaces missing, malfunctioning, or damaged equipment, including both department issued and personal issued equipment. Performs vehicle and equipment checks at the start of every shift. Operates radio in accordance with polices, guidelines and procedure. Cares for incapacitated emergency workers subject to the effects of excessive heat, smoke inhalation, injury, etc. Provides field evaluation and training to basic life support personnel. Establishes the medical group/branch functioning within the incident command system on scenes involving multiple patients, complex incidents, or integrated response operations involving multiple first responder disciplines maintaining effective scene control in all areas related to patient care. Attends classes and performs those activities required to familiarize and maintain currency with the proper practices and procedures of emergency medical services to affect an efficient delivery of services. Accurately and timely completes detailed patient care reports withing 24 hours of the call being dispatched. When requested, functions as a field training officer for basic and advanced life support personnel completing associated documentation. Interacts tactfully and courteously with career and volunteer emergency services personnel. Maintains appearance in accordance with department standards. Discharges all duties according to Township policy, departmental/division guidelines, and EMS regulations/protocols; demonstrates ability to work under high stress conditions. Efficiently operates computer equipment and software programs used by the EMS, Fire and Public Safety Department. Ability to move 100 pounds to a height of 3 feet and carry 100 pounds a minimum of 6 feet. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces. Has the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Has bi-lateral manual dexterity in moving, carrying, extricating, climbing, hoisting, etc. Has hearing ability sufficient to understand verbal and radio communication. Performs field training for new staff and completes associated documentation. Efficiently operates computer equipment and software programs used by the EMS Department. Ability to use personal protective equipment properly Has the ability to wear respiratory protection equipment and the ability to wear personal protective equipment. OTHER FUNCTIONS
: Attends continuing education classes, specialized advanced life support courses, scene control, incident management and rescue education required to familiarize and maintain currency with the proper practices and procedures of emergency medical services to affect an efficient delivery of services. Actively participates in public relations events, conducting tours, blood pressure screenings, injury prevention, public presentations etc. Assists with new staff orientation. Attends scheduled staff meetings Strives to obtain competency in accordance with employee evaluation measures. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE-SKILLS-ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM SATISFACTORILY
Knowledge:
a. Knowledge of emergency medical services principles and techniques. b. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to emergency medical services. c. Knowledge of local and Dept. of Health medical protocols. d. Knowledge of Township's topography, road system, and traffic patterns. e. Knowledge of Township policies and procedures. f. a. Skill to perform duties required of an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic. b. Skill in the use of tools and adjuncts associated with advanced prehospital patient care. c. Skill in operating light duty emergency vehicles, including sedans and ambulances, in emergency conditions. d. Skill in the preparation of written reports and forms using Patient Care Reporting (PCR) software required, or other documentation identified in policy. e. Skill in dealing with people in a variety of situations. f. Skill in working side-by-side with both career and volunteer emergency personnel in a harmonious manner. g. Skill in managing emergency medical incident scenes. Abilities:

Ability to work rotating shifts. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful permanent resident alien, or an alien authorized to work in the United States. Possesses High School diploma or equivalent. Current certifications as follows:
➢ A minimum of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certification by Pennsylvania Department of Health. ➢ Health Care Provider CPR issued by a PA DOH approved organization. ➢ Advanced Cardiac Life Support. ➢ Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Education for the Prehospital Provider. ➢ Emergency Vehicle Operations Course. ➢ EMSVO Certification ➢ Hazardous Materials Operation Level (within 1 year of hire). ➢ OSHA Standards for Infection Control. ➢ NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
➢ Possesses a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license. ➢ Completion of PSP and Childline background checks. Skilled in conducting emergency medical assessments, taking necessary pre-hospital care and using emergency medical equipment. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to lift 100 pounds to a height of 3-feet and carry 100 pounds up to a minimum of 6 feet. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces. Vision sufficient to qualify for PA Driver's License in compliance with PennDOT regulations. Has vision sufficient to pass a visual field test for peripheral vision Has hearing ability sufficient to understand verbal and radio communication. Bi-lateral manual dexterity in lifting, carrying, extricating, climbing, hoisting, using stairs while carrying equipment and patients. Performs related work as required ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
: Physical fitness to perform the functions of the job. Physical activities include frequent standing, walking regular kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting upper body, climbing. Frequent lifting, dragging and carrying of 50-250 pounds, agility, balance, coordination, endurance, hearing, speaking, vision, and manual dexterity. Work environment includes working outdoors in cold, extreme heat, smoke, air-borne pathogens, blood borne pathogens, noise, confined working space, electrical hazards, chemicals, toxic waste, explosive materials and mechanical hazards. Ability to pass and maintain all ChildLine and other state required background checks for operating in a patient contact environment.
