Job Description
Overview The Asian Community Navigator is a key member of a local team that implements multi-pronged citizenship navigation and organizing campaigns to advance progressive systemic change that is driven by our impacted Asian communities. The Asian Community Navigator will work as part of the Woori Juntos team, and will report to the Interim Executive Director. Responsibilities Korean or Vietnamese Community Citizenship Navigation (75%) Outreach and engage with immigrants, who hold green cards, to build trusted relationships, promote benefits of citizenship across Harris County. Assist in organizing citizenship informational sessions and workshops. Develop strategies to connect clients with various organizations for fee waiver programs. Gather information and data on eligible immigrants, who are eligible for citizenship. Follow up with clients to ensure they have the services and support they need when applying and after applying for citizenship. Facilitate Civics classes for citizenship preparation. Actively participate in public education workshops addressing critical immigration issues. Foster and expand relationships with program participants, leaders and partner organizations to promote the Houston Naturalize Now campaign. Attend mandatory educational N-400 citizenship navigator education programs and staff meetings. Korean or Vietnamese Community Organizing (20%) Work with Woori Juntos staff and community members to execute organizing campaigns based on our communities priority issues. Recruit, train, build relationships with, and develop the leadership of impacted community members to lead organizing campaigns. Structure Woori Juntos's campaigns to be informed and led by impacted community members. Other (5%) Other duties as assigned. Experience Direct Experience One to two years of experience in a citizenship navigation role with the Korean or Vietnamese community; Data Management and Technology Proficiency in and comfortable using Google Suite, Asana, Slack, and Zoom for daily tasks and communication; Proficiency with organizing software and technologies (e.g., Getthru, Mobilize, Impactive, VAN); Proficiency with data management and large email software (e.g., Action Network, EveryAction); Project Management Ability to switch between detail-intensive data processing and relationship-based interaction with ease; Ability to manage and make progress on multiple projects simultaneously; Ability to handle diverse challenges with a calm demeanor and positive outlook and be oriented towards excellence in service; Ability to work well in and build a team and is committed to modeling the world we want to see inside the organization and its campaigns and programs; Relationships and Coalition Building Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally to support key efforts, staff and programs, as needed. Ability to work well in and build coalitions; An orientation towards learning and development; willing to learn from mistakes, receive feedback, and give feedback to others; Enjoys both listening to and sharing ideas and opinions; Community-Centered Values Strong vision of community empowerment and deep commitment to change the world with diverse impacted immigrant communities; Believes that impacted immigrant community members can and should lead organizing and advocacy campaigns; Strong understanding of issues Asian and Latine communities are facing and how it intersects with all impacted communities including people of color, women, and LGBTQIA+ communities; Commitment to transparent, respectful, and equitable communication in multilingual spaces; Language Skills Bilingual in English and an Asian Language (priority of Korean or Vietnamese) or Spanish is preferred.
