Job Summary The Patient Transporter delivers patients, equipment, medication, lab specimens, and paperwork from one location to another within University Medical Center, the Medical Office Plaza, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and other facilities Reports to: Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: Responds to requests as assigned by the Teletracking System via telephone and/or according to departmental policy Assists patients on or off their beds and with moves to treatment areas or operating room May be asked to transport supplies, specimens, and/or equipment to designated areas of medical facility Transport deceased patients to appropriate areas such as mortuary or other assigned location All other assigned duties related to Nursing Support Services Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED +1 year of prior customer service or patient care experience Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations BLS CPR must be completed within 90 days of hire into the role Skills and Abilities Effective communicator, both written and verbally; Should be able to speak, read, and write English fluently Possess a sense of urgency; Patent Transporters will be expected to perform a certain number of jobs per hour Strong attention to geographical awareness; Transporters will be expected to learn and memorize hospital critical areas and locations Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position requires interaction with medical staff, ancillary areas and patients directly in order to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Physical Capabilities The Patient Transporter must be emotionally and physically fit. The work requires considerable walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and moving of patients, specimens, medications, supplies, records, paperwork, and equipment. The atmosphere may at times become stressful and physically/emotionally demanding. Since assignments are based on the transportation needs of various areas and departments, the Transporter is required to work throughout University Medical Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and the Medical Office Plaza. The work is of high risk for exposure to Biological and Chemical hazards. Environmental/Working Conditions The position is mostly subject to inside working conditions. Hours may be long and irregular.
