As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will play a key role in creating a welcoming, motivating, and inclusive environment where members feel empowered to reach their wellness goals. In this role, you will lead dynamic group exercise classes, inspire participants of all fitness levels, and deliver a high-quality experience rooted in the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Functions:
Lead energizing, engaging, and safe group exercise classes using a variety of formats and equipment Create a fun and supportive environment that encourages participation and member retention Maintain all required certifications, including Group Exercise, CPR/AED, First Aid, and assigned trainings Accurately track and submit timesheets as required Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding schedule changes or emergencies Take ownership of assigned classes, including securing substitutes when needed Provide guidance and support to members to help them achieve their health and wellness goals Build meaningful relationships with members and foster a strong sense of community Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures, including emergency action protocols Attend staff meetings and required trainings to stay informed and connected Support YMCA fundraising efforts and community initiatives Maintain a clean, organized workout space and ensure equipment is in good condition Arrive early to set up and create a welcoming atmosphere before each class Develop inclusive, appropriate playlists and confidently operate audio equipment Utilize personal devices to connect with YMCA technology platforms as needed Present a professional image by wearing appropriate and functional athletic attire Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the program
Child Abuse Prevention Expectations:
Follow all policies related to maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth Complete required abuse risk management training annually Report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior immediately Comply with all mandated reporting requirements Adhere to all job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities
Minimum Requirements:
Current national group exercise certification (or ability to obtain within a supervisor-approved timeframe) Specialty certifications as required for specific class formats Ability to lead and actively participate in group exercise classes
