Job Description

WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING FOR SEVERAL OPENINGS.
This seasonal assignment is projected to commence in May 2026 and to last through September 2026. This position will require work on weekends, nights, and holidays, as needed, and assigned.
PART-TIME/N/A FLSA
Non-Exempt SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, assists with running recreation programs, events and activities for citizens of varying ages and abilities. Assists with front desk duties and facility upkeep. This is the entry level position in the Recreation Leader series of jobs. This is a multi-incumbent. Incumbents are typically assigned responsibility for a particular program or sport based on their skills and experience.
EXAMPLES OF REGULAR DUTIES

Assist with instruction, and support for multiple recreational activities provided through the department; assists with sports, recreation programming, music, dance, arts, and crafts. May assist at the front desk of a recreation facility handling phone calls, greeting the public, and providing information regarding recreation programming and services. Coaches, instructs, officiates, keeps score and oversee participants at assigned sport or activity; ensures safety of all participants, monitors security of equipment, and provides maintenance and support as needed. Assists with maintaining inventory of equipment and participates in general maintenance and custodial activities; performs set up and breakdown of equipment for various programs. Assists with the preparation of promotional materials such as flyers and posters. Assists in City wide events as assigned; supports a wide range of programs and services requiring a variety of skills and functions. Assists with maintaining complete, accurate and timely records; preparing simple reports. Assists with preparing athletic fields; inspecting, checking, and maintaining equipment. May operate various city vehicles, tracks mileage, and checks to ensure all facilities and parks are functional and maintained. Clean-up after events and programs. Sweeps and mops floors, empty trash, store and secure equipment. Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE - A
combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. High School Diploma, GED, preferred. Prior experience in recreation programming and leadership preferred. CPR and First Aid Certificate.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices recreation. Sports or skilled activities. Record keeping and report writing. Department Rules and Regulations.
Ability to:
Provide skill leadership in assigned sports or activities. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with other people. Operate Microsoft Office, computing systems, and mobile devices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand and sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may be required to climb, stoop or run. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The essential duties of this position are performed in a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both outdoor and indoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
