Job Description

RECREATION LEADER II
(CLERICAL) Hourly (Part-Time)-Up to 28 hours/week Open/Competitive - No Benefits Open Until Filled The City of Pico Rivera's vision and values are to safeguard the public's trust through open and transparent business practices that consistently maintain our credibility of strong ethical stewardship of all resources. The Department The Parks and Recreation Department oversees Parks, Programs, REACH, Senior Services, Contract Classes, Media and Communications, Special Events, Transportation, and the Pico Rivera Golf Course. The amenities provided by the Parks and Recreation Department are enjoyed by thousands of people every year. The amenities include 100 acres of parks and open spaces, swimming pool, athletic fields, walking paths, Senior Center, and batting cages. The Position Under general supervision, provides clerical support within recreation or community-based programs. Will be expected to assist with program events. City Hall is open Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. The schedule for this position will be any combination of days between Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM (schedule may change based on the needs of the department). This position may also be required to work non-traditional shift/hours including holidays, special events and various evening and weekend dates. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Customer Service:
Greeting visitors; answering multi-line phones; directing calls; providing information on programs and parks; handling complaints; and maintaining accurate participant records and registrations in the MyRec system.
Administrative Support:
Typing, filing, data entry (Microsoft Office, database software), preparing correspondence, mail merges, scanning, scheduling, distributing inner office mail and other clerical duties as required.
Financial/Cash Handling:
Processing registrations, acting as cashier (handling cash, checks, receipts, deposits), tracking revenue/sponsorships.
Program Support:
Assisting with park/facility reservations and event permits. Assist with recreation programs, special events, and activities, which may include setup, check-in, crowd support, and cleanup. Maintain confidentiality of participant and financial information. Prepare signs and flyers for recreation activities. Communicate effectively with co-workers, program participants and the public. Enforce departmental policies governing public safety and quality service. Maintain indoor/outdoor office bulletin boards - Recreation Programs, Special Event Flyers and Parks & Recreation Commission Agendas for public viewing. Submit Work Orders for Department - Public Works & Information Technology. Perform related duties as assigned. Additionally, candidates: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be available to work varied shifts; early mornings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Ability to speak Spanish is desired.
Experience:
A minimum of One (1) year of cumulative work experience, with at least Six (6) months of experience in recreation, clerical support or a closely related field preferred.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and/or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions.
License:
Possession of a California Class C Driver's License is desired. Within 30 days of hire, candidates must obtain and maintain throughout the course of employment, certification in Infant/Child/Adult CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Community First Aid and Safety from a nationally accredited organization, such as the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Health and Safety Institute (HSI). (Online certifications will be accepted; skills test / hands-on training must be completed after online portion). A Veteran's Credit of 10 points may be applied once a candidate has qualified for the eligibility list. Applicants must submit proof of service/honorable discharge in accordance with the City of Pico Rivera's Rules and Regulations along with application materials prior to the filing date. Proof must be submitted with the application materials to be eligible for veteran's credit. Veterans who wish to utilize this credit must have served on a full-time basis (not reserve or auxiliary) in the armed forces for a minimum of six months (180 days).
