Group Fitness Instructor

25 per class. Must be available to teach Fridays 8:30-9:30 am.
General Statement of Duties:
Responsible for planning and conducting effective and enjoyable fitness classes in a variety of formats including, but not limited to, cardio conditioning, muscle conditioning, strength training, and other generalized group exercise classes. Sets appropriate, safe structure for classes; follows an established curriculum as established by certification requirements; ensures participants have a quality experience. Keeps class attendance and monitors class participants. Teaches classes as scheduled or follows substitution policy.

Works under the supervision and direction of the Fitness Programs Supervisor and Fitness Coordinator.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Examples of Duties:
The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Designs and instructs fitness classes in conjunction with the intended format to be determined by the instructor and Fitness Programs Supervisor and Fitness Coordinator. Able to provide and demonstrate exercise modifications based on participant needs and abilities. Set appropriate and safe structures for cardio and strength-based classes. Ensures participants have a quality fitness experience while following HRCA program policies and procedures. Ensures the safety of participants by implementing and monitoring procedures to meet safety guidelines/expectations. Completes incident reports as required. Takes accurate class attendance following the HRCA Fitness guidelines. Informs the Fitness Programs Supervisor and Fitness Coordinator of all incidents, complaints, and unfavorable situations immediately. Takes responsibility for the safe and effective use of program equipment. Reports any equipment concerns and identifies supply needs. Sets up and takes down equipment as needed. Attends and participates in scheduled staff meetings. Understands the procedure for finding subs for scheduled classes when needed. Implements a customer service model that enhances positive communication and support for all customers, internal and external. Presents a positive approach to working with other HRCA staff members. Provides information to clarify the intent and structure of fitness classes. Resolves problems and concerns as able. Works positively to share workspaces and equipment.
Physical and Environmental Standards :
Most work is performed indoors in a busy setting where noise and interruptions prevail. Must be able to regularly sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Manual dexterity is needed to type and write. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 40 pounds unassisted and 60 pounds with assistance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of fitness, health, and wellness principles and how to apply them in teaching fitness classes. Must be aware of physical modifications for individuals of all ages/abilities. Must be able to plan, develop, and implement a class curriculum as established by certification. Must be dependable, reliable and exhibit exceptional leadership skills and qualities. Requires bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and climbing to perform tasks normally associated with this position. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Education:
Must possess and maintain a certified Personal Trainer/Group Exercise Instructor certification by a nationally recognized organization such as AAAI, ACE, AEA, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, Fit Tour, or AFPA.
Experience:
High School Diploma or GED. Three months minimum experience in teaching cardio and/or strength-based fitness classes is preferred.
