Job Description

The City of Savannah Therapeutics division has the perfect opportunity just for you as a Recreation Service Leader. This position will organize and lead individuals with disabilities to promote a variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities. We look to develop youth through continuous learning opportunities involving after school programs in our community centers, a variety of special events, athletic leagues, swim lessons, summer camp as well as programs for those with developmental disabilities. Recreation Services Leaders are responsible for helping develop strong relationships within the department, the community, and the citizens of Savannah. Plans, develops, organizes, and leads a variety of cultural and leisure activities for participants. Implements precautions to ensure the safety of leisure services participants and spectators. Coordinates the daily schedule of activities. Supervises children and adult citizens in a variety of activities, including but not limited to sports, arts, crafts, recreational games, and computers. Resolves problems and conflicts among participants. Orders, issues, and collects equipment and supplies from participants. Maintains activity and attendance records of participants during functions. Provides first aid in cases of minor injuries. Must transport participants. Enforces rules and regulations. Trains and coaches individuals with disabilities. Performs other related duties as assigned. High School Diploma or GED required with less than one year of experience as a volunteer or paid leader; or any equivalent combination or education, training, and experience. Six (6) months to a year of experience as a volunteer or paid leader for those 18 years old and up. A valid driver's license is desired. First Aid/CPR certification Desired but not required. Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. Knowledge of leisure services and recreational activities. Knowledge of instructional techniques. Knowledge of supervisory principles. Knowledge of safety procedures and basic first aid. Knowledge of conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of equipment usage, storage, and inventory principles. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in planning and coordinating various cultural and recreational activities. Skill in the use of computers and other standard office equipment. Skill in organization. Skill in oral and written communication.
