Job Description
RECREATION LEADER I
LOCATION:
Queen Anne's County, Maryland
JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision, is responsible for direct organization of a variety of recreation services and activities, including but not limited to indoor and outdoor recreation programs, camps, sporting events, club house operations and special events.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONSSet up and clean up before and after assigned recreation activities, programs, and events.
Lead or assist with games and activities to include score and clock keeping, special events, movie nights, etc.
Assist groups in planning and carrying out program activities.
Prepare craft activity materials.
Responsible for providing host duties, handling of pre-packaged foods and beverages.
Accompany participants on hikes, field trips and other activities. Provide cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.
Ad to safety guidelines to prevent injuries.
Supervise youth participants through daily program activities enforcing program rules and Youth Camp Standards.
Provide assistance to the Recreation Leader II and III with a variety of recreation activities, programs, and events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIESAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSCPR and First Aid preferred.
EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCEMust be at least 16
• years old OR have successfully completed the tenth grade. At least one year of experience working with youth in the field of parks and recreation, physical education, childcare, or a related field preferred.
•Age restriction is based on COMAR regulations for working with children in camp settings.
PHYSICAL
DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with arms and talk and hear.
