Independent Living Job Overview:
The PRN Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and age-appropriate fitness classes for residents of an Independent Living community on an as-needed basis. The instructor promotes physical wellness, balance, strength, and flexibility while encouraging residents to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. The instructor ensures exercises are adapted to meet the varying abilities and health considerations of older adults.Responsibilities:
Lead group fitness classes such as chair exercise, stretching, balance training, strength training, and low-impact aerobics. Modify exercises to accommodate residents with carrying mobility levels, physical limitations, or health conditions. Provide clear instruction and demonstrate proper exercise techniques. Monitor residents during exercise to ensure safety and prevent injury. Encourage participation and create a welcoming, supportive environment for residents of all fitness levels. Communicate with the Group Fitness Instructor regarding class participation and any concerns about resident well-being. Assist the Group Fitness Instructor with major community events or wellness-related programs as needed. Ensure exercise equipment and areas are clean, organized, and safe. Follow community policies, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures. Assist with class setup and cleanup as needed. Ability to represent the Community in a positive and professional manner. Ability to establish effective relationships with residents, family members and staff. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, personnel, and visitors under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff and visitors. Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors and staff. Works beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner (visitors include anyone who visits the community; specifically, current residents' families and friends, prospective residents and their families, referral sources, vendors, and regulators). Answer phones appropriately, according to company and community standards. Communicate professionally and cooperate with supervisors and all community personnel. Monitor and evaluate customer satisfaction. Work as a part of the team to develop appropriate action plans to continually improve satisfaction levels. Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents' rights. Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:
CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain. Knowledge of exercises that support balance, fall prevention, flexibility, and strength. Must pass a criminal background check. Must meet all health and safety requirements. Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.Preferred Qualifications:
Group fitness certification preferred (ACE, AFAA, NASM, SilverSneakers, or similar). Experience teaching fitness classes preferred. Experience working with older adults or senior populations strongly preferred.Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
PRN (as-needed) position. Hours vary depending on class schedules, instructor availability, and community needs. Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.). May work in other positions temporarily when necessary. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., through the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants. Ability to demonstrate exercises and lead group instruction. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stretch, and lift light exercise equipment (up to 20 lbs). May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Including but not limited to sitting/standing in place for short/long periods at a time, repetitive use of hands, fingers, wrists, arms, frequent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, pushing/pulling/lifting 25+lbs. High people interaction, bright and low lighting, loud noises, fluctuating temperatures, exposure to odors communicable illness/disease and other related infectious contagions found in a healthcare/residential setting.Benefits:
