Job Description

JOB TITLE
Group Fitness Instructor Reports to: Health & Fitness Program Coordinator Job Summary The Group Fitness Instructor leads engaging, high-energy group exercise classes that motivate members of all fitness levels while fostering a welcoming, community-focused environment. This role delivers safe, effective, and results-driven workouts through strong leadership, clear instruction, and a passion for health and wellness. Group Fitness Instructors inspire participants to challenge themselves, ensure proper form and injury prevention, and contribute to a positive, professional studio experience aligned with the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA's mission. The focus would be for the Active Aging population. Experience working with this population is highly preferred!
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead challenging, effective, and engaging group fitness classes tailored to a variety of fitness levels. Provide proper instruction on form, technique, and injury prevention. Keep classes fun, dynamic, and motivating, ensuring a great experience for all participants. Adapt workouts and offer modifications or progressions based on student needs. Build a welcoming, community-driven culture in the studio. Maintain professionalism, reliability, and studio cleanliness. Keep current with the latest fitness trends and attend seminars and workshops that are provided by credible organizers.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA, etc.). Deep knowledge of fitness programming and ability to create effective workouts. Must be knowledgeable of limitations that may restrict some students' participation and compensate for those limitations. Strong leadership and communication skills to motivate and guide participants. Ability to modify workouts to accommodate various fitness levels. Have or be in the process of acquiring a working knowledge of physiology and kinesiology. Must maintain CPR/AED certification as well as be educated in safe -movement and basic first aid for common injuries. Have a thorough knowledge of emergency procedures and take appropriate action for the Group Fitness Department in emergency situations, as directed by the department director.
