This position implements and coordinates a variety of recreational programming throughout the city, including scheduling, advertising, and evaluating programs. Coordinates recreation programs, leagues and camps. Provides customer service to patrons. Ideal Candidate The City is seeking a community minded Recreation Leader to support operations and programming at Floyd Lamb Park. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a nontraditional recreation environment that blends outdoor park stewardship with high quality event execution. The successful candidate will be able to manage staff schedules, coordinate logistics, and ensure smooth daily operations in a park setting that includes public access, special events, and unique environmental considerations. They will have experience supervising and supporting hourly staff, setting clear expectations, communicating effectively, and fostering a positive, accountable team culture aligned with the City's values of being kind, committed, and smart. This person will also serve as the point of contact for events of varying scale, anticipating needs, adapting quickly, and maintaining a calm, professional presence in a fast-paced outdoor environment. The role requires someone willing to jump in wherever needed, including event setup and breakdown, with the ability to lift and move equipment, work outdoors in varying conditions, and adjust to shifting priorities. An appreciation for the unique character of Floyd Lamb Park is essential, along with a motivation to create meaningful experiences for visitors while helping preserve and respect this historic space. This position will be assigned to the Special Events Division and work at Floyd Lamb Park however future vacancies may be filled from this list for other divisions including the Active Adult or Recreation Division. Type of Examination A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. Eligible You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. Selection Process Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions. Example of Duties Distinguishing Characteristics This is the full journey level class within the Recreation Leader series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit or facility. Supervision Received and Exercised Receives general supervision from the assigned Recreation Coordinator or higher level supervisory or management staff. May receive functional and technical supervision from Senior Recreation Leader. Essential Functions Coordinates and implements various recreational and community-oriented programs, activities, trips, and special events, including but not limited to adult, youth, active adult, sports, technology, and eSports (leagues, tournaments, competitions, etc.), multigenerational programs, camps, and out-of-school-time programs. Gathers information from various sources to identify needs and trends for new programs; drafts program outlines and reviews with higher-level staff. Evaluates activities, programs and classes for content, techniques and special problems. Monitors facilities for function, safety and equipment issues; performs safety and health related cleaning and maintenance services as needed; requests maintenance services as necessary. Open and close facilities; sets up and takes down equipment and supplies needed for scheduled activities; ensures that safety equipment is in good working order and easily accessible. Participates in front desk operations, including answering telephones, registering participants, selling passes, collecting fees, preparing cash deposit and report, providing information, entering and updating class and program information in the recreational software or other data-driven software system, entering attendance and responding to complaints. Enforces facility, department and city rules and regulations. Assists in preparing marketing materials and displays. Administers various types of leagues including signing up participants, creating rosters, bracketing compiling rules and scheduling dates, times, locations and referees for games and practices. Assists with selecting volunteers; may oversee the work of volunteers. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Participates in the procurement process. Maintains documentation on all programs and participants; prepares statistical and summary reports as needed. Responds to routine inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. May supervise seasonal and hourly employees, instructors and volunteers; participates in recruiting and selecting job applicants; provides training, oversees work and conducts performance evaluations; approves and processes timecards; may make recommendations for terminations. Ensures hourly employees adhere to established work methods, and techniques; informs hourly employees of applicable city and department policies, procedures, standards and specifications; reviews needs with appropriate supervisory and management staff. May assist with scheduling hourly staff; ensures appropriate staff to participant ratio for assigned summer camp and children's programs. When assigned to camps in an Aquatic environment, staff may work with Aquatic staff. Marginal Functions Maintains a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files; performs a variety of record keeping, filing, and other general clerical work. May provide instruction for or run classes, activities, sports/eSports, youth, adult, active adult technology, camps, and special events. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. Minimum Requirements Experience/Training Associate's or higher degree in a related field

- including internships, work study or volunteer work, OR Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years (full-time) of customer service experience that involved regular public contact, clerical work, cashiering, or parks & recreation experience.

Retirement Benefit eligible employees participate in the Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (PERS). PERS, a statewide defined benefit plan, calculates retirement benefits based on 2.25 percent (current percentage for employees hired 7/1/15 and after)for each year of service, applied to the employee's highest consecutive 36-month average salary. PERS also requires that employees share 50 percent of the PERS contribution, which is implemented by reducing the city's salary ranges. The highest consecutive 36-month average salary is increased commensurate with the salary range reductions required by PERS. Deferred Compensation The city offers a 457(b) Plan which is a government deferred compensation plan similar to a 401(k) plan. It offers both pre-tax and after-tax savings and investment options. Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance Employees are covered the first of the month following date of employment. Five medical plans, two dental, and two vision plans are available. City pays 100% of employee premium + 50% of dependent premium. Life and AD&D Insurance City provides $20,000 insurance at no cost. Additional voluntary life insurance and AD&D insurance available for purchase. Disability Insurance City provides a long term disability policy:LTD:
Employees who normally work at least 30 hours/week are eligible. Benefits may begin after 90 days of an approved disability leave.
