Applications will be reviewed upon receipt. These positions commonly work between both our Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) and Hidden Creek Community Center. Except for the Water Exercise Instructor who will work out of SHARC. We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer to guide clients in achieving their health and fitness goals. This role will create personalized workout plans, demonstrate exercises, monitor progress, and provide ongoing support to ensure safe and effective training. Participates in the instruction and organization of fitness recreation programs; performs directly related work as required. The principal function of an employee in this class is to participate in the instruction and organization of City fitness recreational programs. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. This class is distinguished from the class of Recreation Instructor I by lead worker duties. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, program participants, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed at recreation facilities. This is a non-exempt position. The Fitness Instructor and Personal trainer positions are under the Recreation Instructor II job classification. Examples of Essential Work The ideal candidate has experience in providing 1:1 client training and/or leading group and/or exercise classes. Specialty certifications are a plus but not required. Applicants must have a strong sense of teamwork and remain dependable, flexible, enthusiastic, and compassionate throughout employment. Fitness staff need to possess basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanical movement to improve individuals' personal health and fitness habits while preventing injury. They need to have the ability to lead a class, cue proper form and give feedback. Instructors consistently promote physical health through instructing classes to various levels. High school diploma or GED and basic First Aid and CPR training are required to apply. This position will include training, shadowing, and co-teaching as part of the onboarding. It is an on-call basis for substitute teaching. We are specifically looking for experienced instructors in the following formats: Aquatic Exercise; Qi Gong/Tai Chi; Yoga; Zumba Gold; Senior Fitness. This role does not follow a fixed schedule, and includes providing backup class coverage to meet staffing demands and ensure smooth operations. Hours may be developed and adjusted based on client needs. Acceptable Experience and Training High School Diploma or GED; and Some related work experience; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Additional Information Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled. Bilingual Incentive Pay Available Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
