A Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor develops customized exercise and fitness programs for clients. Reviews health and fitness goals, teaches correct and safe exercise technique, monitors progress and provides encouragement for clients. Leads fitness and exercise classes at a community center, club or pool. Teaches aerobics, water, strength building or other exercises and maintains equipment.
Group Fitness Instructor The Woodlands at Furman The Woodlands at Furman is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dependable Group Fitness Instructor to lead engaging exercise classes for older adults in our Life Plan community, including Independent Living and Assisted Living. We are looking for an instructor who enjoys building relationships with residents while creating a welcoming, safe, and motivating exercise environment. Employment Type Independent Contractor (1099)
Current Needs:
Teach Chair Yoga twice weekly ; class schedule will be established based on instructor availability and community needs. Qualified instructors may also have opportunities to teach and sub for a variety of fitness classes, including: Strength & Conditioning Aquatic Fitness Balance & Fall Prevention Stretch & Mobility Tai Chi Develop and teach specialty classes based on instructor availability, personal expertise and resident interests, such as Zumba, Pilates, Barre, functional fitness, mindfulness, or other wellness-focused programs. Primary Responsibilities Lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for older adults. Adapt exercises to accommodate a variety of fitness levels, mobility limitations, and health conditions. Arrive early to ensure the exercise space is ready before class. Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive class environment. Monitor participant safety throughout each session and respond appropriately to concerns. Maintain attendance records as requested. Communicate professionally with residents and Wellness Department staff. Support the Wellness Department's mission of promoting healthy aging through physical activity and social engagement. Qualifications Experience teaching group fitness classes; experience working with older adults is preferred. Current nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, YMCA, or equivalent). CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain at The Woodlands before beginning employment). Knowledge of exercise modifications for older adults and individuals with chronic health conditions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently. Preferred Qualities Passion for promoting healthy aging and lifelong wellness. Ability to motivate participants while fostering a welcoming and supportive environment. Positive, engaging teaching style with strong interpersonal skills. Flexibility to teach a variety of class formats and serve as a substitute instructor when needed. Willingness to collaborate with the Wellness team and participate in occasional wellness events or special programming.
Compensation:
$40 per class. Additional compensation is available for specialty programming on weekends.
