Welcome to ROOTs Transition! Located in the beautiful mountains of Park City, Utah, ROOTs Transition supports adolescent females ages 15-18 and their families by blending elements of outdoor therapy and residential treatment in a home-like setting. We believe that by integrating nature, intensive family support, and a continuum of care, we can help your child overcome their trauma and maladaptive behaviors. Our program works to build the resiliency and skills your child may need to move forward throughout life with self-esteem, healthy connections, and positive goals in mind. About the
Role:
Do you thrive outside, bring strong energy to a group, and want meaningful work that actually matters? ROOTs Transition is seeking a Outdoor Recreation Instructor. This is an ideal role for someone who loves adventure, works well with teens, and wants to grow in the mental health field. As an Outdoor Recreation Instructor, you'll combine direct care support with experiential programming. You'll help create safe, engaging, and growth-oriented experiences through activities like hiking, biking, skiing, climbing, paddling, fitness outings, camping trips, and community-based experiences.

What We're Looking For:
Required:
MUST Be At Least 23 Years Old! Valid driver's license with satifactory driving record. CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire. Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
Experience in outdoor adventure, recreation, or guiding. Experience working with adolescents in a therapeutic, educational, coaching, or mentoring setting. Background in psychology, social work, outdoor education, recreation therapy, or related field. Experience working with adolescent females. Experience with biking, climbing, camping, skiing, paddling, or similar activities. Interest in behavioral health, mental health, or social services careers.

What You'll Do:
Direct Care & Client Support:
Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for clients. Work a minimum of four weekly guide shifts supporting daily therapeutic programming. Build positive, professional relationships with adolescent clients. Support treatment goals through engagement, structure, and encouragement.
Outdoor Programming & Recreation:
Partner with leadership to plan and supervise off-campus activities such as: Hiking Mountain biking Skiing / snow activities Paddling / water sports Indoor climbing Gym and fitness classes Museums and educational outings Multi-day camping trips Develop weekly outing schedules and activity plans. Adapt activities to meet emotional, physical, and developmental needs.
Gear, Logistics & Safety:
Maintain, organize, clean, and inspect outdoor gear and camping equipment. Ensure transportation, supplies, and readiness for outings. Monitor client safety, behavior, and medical needs during activities. Respond to emergencies calmly and according to protocol. Assess environments for hazards and maintain high safety standards.
