Job Description

Summary The Fitness Specialist I, under the direct supervision of the Fitness Center Supervisor, works with members of all ages and skill levels, to assist them in achieving their fitness goals. He/she must possess strong teamwork principals and have the patience to instruct the older population (60 and above) in a structured fitness center environment. The incumbent must be able to properly instruct and motivate the members in individuals and/or group settings using proper cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility training guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Group Exercise Instruction Conduct safe and effective group exercise classes. Observe and correct contraindications to exercise. Modify class according to different fitness levels. Keep current with new trends and styles for group exercise instruction. Customer Service Provide tours of the facility, showing prospective clients the different services and programs offered at the Lifestyle Center. Build a rapport with members. Meet member needs and maintain a high level of satisfaction. Provide superior customer service to all members. Interact with other departments to maintain a good working relationship. Participate in special events or health fairs to promote the Lifestyle Center or our community. Environment Coordinate and prioritize responsibilities and projects. Manage workspace. Maintain the cleanliness of all fitness equipment during every shift. Follow and record the opening and closing procedures. Exercise Orientation and Programming Conduct new member orientations and assist existing members with proper and safe equipment usage. Identify risk factors for all members. Understand the basic principles involved in muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular development. Customize a program to meet a member's needs. Demonstrate a safe program on the exercise equipment. Quality and Timeliness of Work Complete work in a timely manner with mastery and proficiency Provide high quality work. Summary of Other Job Dutjes and Expectations Adhere to the Service Excellence Standards and Expectations at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Exhibit courteous communication skills and an ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in performance of job duties. Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect to others in adherence of the hospital's philosophy and policy for promoting positive work and customer environments. Work as a team to continuously improve work quality. Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work schedules when it is necessary to ensure patient care. Present self in a positive manner as reflected by personal attire and etiquette. Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
Supervisory Responsibilities Reports to:
Fitness Center Supervisor but may be assigned duties by the Director of Community Health Services Must be knowledgeable of strength/free weight equipment, cardiovascular machines, and general strength training principles with modifications for the senior population.
Education and Experience Required Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience:
3+ years in personal training or group fitness instruction Certificates. Licenses. Registrations Current national fitness or group fitness certification (ex:
NCSA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM
