The Part-Time Water Aerobics Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and effective water fitness classes for participants of varying ages and fitness levels. This position promotes health and wellness while providing excellent guest service, maintaining a positive atmosphere, and ensuring the safety of all participants in and around the pool.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and instruct water aerobics classes that accommodate varying fitness levels and participant abilities. Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide modifications as needed. Ensure the safety of participants by following established aquatic safety procedures and monitoring class activities. Arrive prior to scheduled class times to prepare equipment and the pool area. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe aquatic environment before, during, and after classes. Inspect equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for guests and members. Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures. Maintain accurate attendance records, if required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience leading group fitness or water aerobics classes preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate participants while maintaining a safe exercise environment. Knowledge of aquatic fitness principles and exercise modifications. Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
High School diploma or GED required.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
(S): Current Water Aerobics or Group Fitness Instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization (such as AFAA, ACE, YMCA, or equivalent), or the ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, and demonstrate aquatic exercises for extended periods. Ability to enter and exit the pool safely and repeatedly throughout scheduled classes. Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires prolonged exposure to water, humidity, pool chemicals, and varying temperatures. Must possess sufficient vision, hearing, and mobility to supervise participants and respond effectively in emergency situations. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
