Job Description

Under the direction of a Recreation Services Coordinator or Recreation Program Specialist, this seasonal position conducts indoor and/or outdoor activities, provides direction to Recreation Leader 1 staff and ensures activities are safe, proper and appropriate. This position also is responsible for helping to maintain equipment and grounds.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Recreation Leader 2 is distinguished from the Recreation Leader 1 by the minimum age requirement, minimum experience requirement and for performing duties of greater complexity including transporting participants in a fifteen (15) passenger van.

Plan and coordinate indoor and/or outdoor recreational activities including special events, playground activities and camps. Lead groups in appropriate projects (i.e. arts and crafts, field trips, sports) and a variety of recreational activities and educational programs. E Provide direction to Recreation Leader 1 staff. E Communicate with other City personnel to coordinate scheduling, facility use and related program arrangements. E Maintain a variety of records and help write periodic reports. E Maintain program equipment in good working order. Ensure facility and grounds are kept neat, clean and litter free. Perform custodial and light maintenance duties. E Provide information to the public concerning recreation programs, policies, regulations and schedules. Answer participant inquiries in person and over the telephone. E Render routine First Aid in case of minor injury and administer CPR as needed. E Perform related duties as assigned. Six (6) months related work experience. Community recreation and/or education program experience preferred. A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE OF
General rules, regulations, practices, and terminology of recreation activities. Requirements of maintaining facilities and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Oral and written communication skills. Basic record-keeping techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy and respect.
SKILL IN
Coordinate a variety of youth recreational activities. Analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action. Reading, interpreting, applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Maintaining current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions. Establishing rapport and maintaining cooperative working relationships with user populations, parents and staff. Communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Planning and organizing work. Working independently with moderate direction. Valid adult and child CPR and First Aid Certificates preferred. Ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire required. Valid Washington State driver's license. A three-year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire.
