Category Pharmacy-Pharmacist in Charge Job Type Contract A mail order pharmacy located in Alabama is seeking a qualified Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to provide leadership and ensure regulatory compliance for pharmacy operations. This role requires an active pharmacist license in both Illinois and Alabama, with the Illinois license governing PIC responsibilities and compliance. This contract position offers a flexible schedule averaging approximately 8 hours per week, allowing the PIC to fulfill key duties while managing time independently. Additional state licenses such as Tennessee or Georgia are beneficial but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations Oversee and maintain pharmacy policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance programs Provide oversight of medication dispensing accuracy, patient safety, and daily workflow processes specific to mail order pharmacy Fulfill all Illinois PIC documentation, reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements Supervise and support pharmacy staff involved in mail order fulfillment Manage controlled substance oversight, including DEA recordkeeping and reporting Prepare for and facilitate audits, inspections, and regulatory corrective actions Ensure proper storage, handling, packaging, and shipment of medications Review and approve updates to SOPs, compliance logs, and regulatory documentation Serve as the primary contact for state boards, accreditation bodies, and auditors
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Active pharmacist licenses in Illinois and Alabama (mandatory) Previous experience as a Pharmacist in Charge or in pharmacy leadership roles Strong understanding of mail order pharmacy operations, regulatory requirements, and fulfillment workflow Ability to work independently while maintaining rigorous compliance oversight in a limited weekly schedule Additional licensure in Tennessee or Georgia is a plus This contract role offers flexibility and the opportunity to lead a mail order pharmacy with a critical compliance focus.
