DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Position Overview :
In this role, you will oversee pharmaceutical services and medication management operations within the detention facility while ensuring residents receive safe, effective, and appropriate medication therapy in accordance with government detention standards, clinical protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations. You will work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, behavioral health personnel, and pharmacy staff to review medication regimens, monitor pharmaceutical usage, and support continuity of care for residents with acute and chronic medical conditions. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to manage pharmacy operations within a secure detention healthcare environment. Responsibilities :
Review, verify, and monitor medication orders, prescriptions, and treatment plans to ensure accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness. Dispense medications and oversee pharmaceutical distribution activities in accordance with healthcare regulations, facility policies, and provider orders. Monitor resident medication therapy for effectiveness, drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, and potential adverse reactions. Coordinate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing personnel, and behavioral health staff regarding medication management and resident treatment needs. Maintain accurate pharmacy records, medication inventories, controlled substance accountability logs, and pharmaceutical documentation in compliance with DEA, HIPAA, and facility requirements. Conduct medication utilization reviews, pharmacy audits, and inventory reconciliation activities to ensure compliance and operational accountability. Provide clinical guidance and medication education to healthcare staff regarding pharmaceutical procedures, medication administration, and treatment protocols. Ensure proper storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of medications, controlled substances, and pharmaceutical supplies. Monitor medication inventory levels and coordinate procurement requests to maintain uninterrupted pharmaceutical operations within the detention facility. Participate in intake screenings, chronic care management activities, emergency response situations, and resident healthcare planning as needed. Support inspections, accreditation reviews, compliance assessments, and quality improvement initiatives related to pharmacy operations and healthcare services. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, sound clinical judgment, and effective communication while supporting safe and efficient pharmaceutical services within the detention facility. Qualifications :
Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Pharmacist. Must possess a completed ASHP-accredited Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency (or equivalent clinical practice experience). Must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited program. Must possess an active Pharmacist License in good standing with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy (or be eligible for reciprocity). Must possess a current BLS/CPR certification. Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization. If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition. Must consent to fingerprinting. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening. Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening. Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations. Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work Environment :
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise. Physical Requirements :
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
