  • Part-time, PRN About HeliosRx HeliosRx is a newly launched, independent compounding pharmacy focused on precision-made sterile and non-sterile preparations for both human and animal patients.
We are building a pharmacy operation rooted in quality, safety, service, and the ability to support providers and patients with customized medication solutions. As we complete build-out, licensing, and operational launch, we are seeking a part-time Staff Pharmacist to provide pharmacist coverage, prescription verification, compounding oversight, and customer service support. This role will initially serve as backup coverage for operational gaps, PTO, sick time, and scheduled pharmacist support, with the potential to grow into a full-time position as the pharmacy expands. Position Summary The Staff Pharmacist
  • Part Time is responsible for supporting safe, accurate, compliant, and patient-focused pharmacy operations under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
This role will support both sterile and nonsterile compounding operations, including hazardous drug activities, while providing pharmacist oversight, prescription verification, clinical review, counseling, provider communication, and customer service support. This position is intended to provide flexible pharmacist coverage during the startup and growth phases of HeliosRx. The Staff Pharmacist will perform PV1 and PV2 functions, verify finished prescriptions and compounded batches, oversee technician activities during assigned shifts, and help ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, USP standards, DEA requirements, Board of Pharmacy requirements, and internal SOPs. The ideal candidate is a licensed pharmacist with strong professional judgment, attention to detail, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment. Compounding experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory and Compliance Support pharmacy operations in accordance with applicable federal and state pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy requirements, DEA requirements, USP standards, internal SOPs, and company policies. , and other applicable compounding standards. Provide pharmacist oversight of sterile, nonsterile, and hazardous drug compounding activities during assigned shifts. Ensure pharmacy technician activities are performed under appropriate pharmacist supervision in accordance with Board of Pharmacy requirements. Identify, document, and escalate quality concerns, medication errors, near misses, deviations, patient/provider complaints, safety concerns, or compliance issues as appropriate. Reinforce adherence to SOPs, compounding procedures, garbing requirements, cleaning expectations, documentation practices, and safety requirements. Help ensure prescription, compounding, and dispensing documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant. Support inspection readiness through daily compliance awareness, proper documentation practices, and escalation of concerns. Assist with quality and compliance activities as assigned by the PIC. Pharmacist Verification and Clinical Review Perform PV1 and PV2 functions in accordance with pharmacy workflow, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements. Review prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, completeness, legality, and clinical relevance. Verify finished prescriptions and compounded preparations prior to release. Review labels, ingredients, calculations, concentrations, dosage forms, quantities, directions, BUDs, warnings, and supporting documentation. Review and verify compounded batches as assigned. Perform drug utilization review, allergy screening, interaction review, therapeutic appropriateness review, and other pharmacist clinical checks as applicable. Evaluate prescription questions, formulation concerns, substitutions, and clarification needs. Communicate with prescribers, clinics, clients, and internal team members to resolve prescription, formulation, clinical, or dispensing questions. Ensure prescriptions are dispensed safely, accurately, and in accordance with professional standards. Compounding and Operations Provide pharmacist oversight for sterile, nonsterile, and hazardous drug compounding activities. Support accurate execution of approved formulas, master formulation records, compounding records, and associated documentation. Verify compounding documentation, calculations, ingredients, equipment, process steps, and final preparations as applicable. Support operational workflow, prescription prioritization, and technician direction during assigned shifts. Monitor compounding and dispensing activities to ensure safety, quality, accuracy, and compliance. Help ensure compounding areas, dispensing areas, and workspaces remain clean, organized, safe, and inspection-ready. Support inventory, material readiness, controlled substance handling, and operational issue resolution as needed. Assist with process improvement, workflow refinement, and operational growth as the pharmacy scales. Potentially support formula review, MFR/BOM review, BUD assignment, and related pharmacy development activities as business needs evolve. Customer Service and Provider Support Provide patient, client, caregiver, and provider counseling as appropriate. Answer clinical, medication-related, and pharmacy service questions from patients, clients, clinics, and providers. Support a professional, helpful, and service-oriented experience for both human and veterinary customers. Communicate clearly with prescribers and clinic staff regarding prescription clarification, medication questions, formulation options, availability, and other pharmacy-related matters. Help resolve customer concerns in a timely, professional, and patient-centered manner. Partner with pharmacy team members to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality service. Leadership and Team Support Provide pharmacist supervision and direction to technicians during assigned shifts. Support a positive culture focused on quality, safety, accountability, teamwork, service, and continuous improvement. Serve as a professional resource for technicians, customer service staff, and other team members. Help coach staff on pharmacy workflow, documentation, compliance expectations, and safe work practices. Escalate performance, quality, safety, or compliance concerns to the PIC as appropriate. Support startup and growth-phase needs, including workflow development, training support, coverage planning, and process refinement. Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and calm decision-making in a growing pharmacy environment. Required Qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy. Active pharmacist license in Arizona in good standing. Minimum of 2 years of pharmacist experience. Strong understanding of pharmacist verification, prescription review, clinical review, dispensing requirements, and patient counseling responsibilities. Ability to supervise pharmacy technician activities in accordance with applicable Board of Pharmacy requirements. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, safety, quality, and compliance. Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with the PIC and pharmacy team. Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a startup environment with evolving workflows, changing priorities, and growing operational needs. Ability to learn and work within pharmacy management systems, compounding systems, inventory systems, quality systems, and other technology platforms. Experience reviewing master formulation records, compounding records, formulas, BUDs, and batch documentation. Experience with pharmacy management systems, compounding software, inventory systems, or quality management systems. Multi-state pharmacist licensure. Pharmacist licensure in any of the following states is a strong plus: California, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Alabama, Louisiana, Nevada, Nebraska, or Alaska. Experience in a startup, growth-stage, or process improvement-focused pharmacy environment. Schedule and Work Environment Hourly, part-time position. Expected hours may range from approximately 8 to 40 hours per week based on pharmacy needs, coverage gaps, PTO, sick time, and business growth. General schedule is expected to fall between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, though hours may vary based on pharmacy needs. The goal is to provide advance notice of scheduled coverage needs whenever possible; however, occasional on-call or short-notice coverage may be needed. This role may grow into a full-time position as the pharmacy expands. Work is performed in pharmacy, compounding, dispensing, warehouse, and controlled-environment settings. Role may require use of PPE, garbing, hood work, hazardous drug precautions, and adherence to strict cleaning, safety, and documentation procedures. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to work in PPE and required garb for sterile, nonsterile, and hazardous drug compounding areas. Ability to perform work in or around hoods, containment devices, cleanroom environments, and other controlled pharmacy spaces. Ability to bend, reach, carry, push, pull, and organize materials and supplies as needed. Ability to use computers, pharmacy systems, phones, and other standard pharmacy equipment for extended periods.
