Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care within Unity Health Care s correctional healthcare setting. This position performs a wide range of duties, including dispensing prescribed medications, providing patient education, serving as a clinical resource to healthcare providers, supervising pharmacy operations and staff, and providing technical and operational support to ensure safe and effective pharmacy services. Key Responsibilities Oversee and supervise all aspects of pharmacy operations. Supervise and provide direction to Pharmacy Technicians. Dispense prescribed medications accurately and safely. Provide medication education and counseling as appropriate. Serve as a pharmaceutical resource to healthcare providers and clinical staff. Identify potential misuse or abuse of pharmaceuticals and recommend appropriate corrective or remedial action. Assist with the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly pharmacy activity reports. Maintain adequate inventory of medications, pharmaceuticals, and other necessary supplies to support safe and efficient operations. Ensure compliance with infection control measures, pharmacy procedures, and applicable regulations. Develop and provide training to nursing staff regarding medications, pharmaceuticals, and related topics. Recommend updates or changes to pharmacy instructions, regulations, policies, and operational guidance as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Pharmacy required. Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the District of Columbia pursuant to applicable D.C. licensing requirements. Prior retail or community pharmacy experience required. Minimum of two (2) years of clinical pharmacy experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of medication management, pharmaceutical practices, and patient safety standards. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the healthcare team. Ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare environment.
