Job Title:
Pharmacist I Job Description As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for reviewing prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to ensure accuracy and determine the necessary formulas and ingredients. You will direct pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Your role includes answering questions and providing information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals. You will also maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Additionally, you will enter data such as patient names, prescribed medication, and costs to maintain pharmacy files, charge systems, and inventory. You will assay medications to determine identity, purity, and strength and instruct interns and other medical personnel on pharmacy-related matters. Responsibilities Review prescriptions to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed. Direct pharmacy workers in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Provide information to customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage. Maintain quality assurance procedures and security of controlled substances. Dispose of hazardous waste drugs appropriately. Enter data into pharmacy files, charge systems, and inventory. Assay medications for identity, purity, and strength. Instruct interns and other medical personnel on pharmacy topics. Essential Skills Must be licensed in Illinois and include the license number on the resume. Retail pharmacy experience preferred (e.g., CVS, Walgreens, Target). Ability to multi-task effectively. Excellent communication skills. Self-motivated and ambitious. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in retail, mail order, or specialty pharmacy is preferred but not required. Comfortable with a contractor pay structure. Candidates should be comfortable being on their feet all day and capable of pushing carts up to 30 lbs. Work Environment The work environment involves working in a distribution area with a rotating schedule every two weeks, offering any 8-hour shift between 7 am and 7:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Shifts are in increments of 8.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch break. Training is scheduled from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Overtime is not required but may be offered based on business needs. Candidates will spend minimal time pushing carts, approximately every few hours, and may interact with patients and providers in the future. The environment is primarily a distribution center, and candidates should expect varied tasks that may include handling high-volume orders. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of North Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
