Job Title:
Clinical Pharmacist Job Description This Clinical Pharmacist role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care within a mail-order pharmacy setting while supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient medication dispensing. You will play a key role in overseeing workflow, performing clinical reviews such as DUR and drug interaction checks, and serving as a liaison between data entry and production to support a growing pharmacy operation. Responsibilities + Supervise pharmacy technicians in the data entry area and provide clear direction and guidance. + Oversee the workflow of pharmacy technicians to ensure timely and accurate processing of prescriptions. + Act as a liaison between the data entry area and production to maintain smooth operations and resolve workflow issues. + Perform Drug Utilization Review (DUR) checks to ensure appropriate medication use. + Conduct drug interaction checks to identify and prevent potential adverse events. + Field incoming calls from patients and healthcare providers, working directly with clinics to address medication-related questions and concerns. + Troubleshoot errors in prescription processing, data entry, and dispensing, and implement corrective actions. + Dispense medications accurately and efficiently according to prescription orders and regulatory requirements. + Review and interpret physician orders to verify accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of therapy. + Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, interactions, therapeutic duplications, and overall safety. + Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes and promote medication adherence. + Provide medication counseling and education to patients on proper medication use, potential side effects, and interactions. + Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medication histories, allergies, and clinical interventions. + Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards. + Ensure proper storage, handling, and security of medications, including monitoring for expired, damaged, or recalled products. + Participate in pharmacy quality assurance programs and continuous quality improvement initiatives. + Assist with inventory management, including ordering, stocking, and managing pharmaceutical supplies. + Deliver excellent customer service by addressing patient and provider inquiries, resolving issues, and promoting pharmacy services. + Stay current with developments in pharmacy practice and participate in ongoing professional development activities. + Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the needs of the pharmacy and the broader team. Essential Skills + Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. + Licensed pharmacist with eligibility to practice pharmacy in the applicable jurisdiction. + Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge, including experience in Drug Utilization Review (DUR) and drug interaction checks. + Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting physician orders for accuracy and therapeutic appropriateness. + Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct pharmacy technicians in a high-volume environment. + Experience in mail-order or centralized pharmacy operations, or strong interest in this practice setting. + Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, clinics, and other healthcare providers by phone and electronically. + Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve errors in prescription processing and workflow. + Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in dispensing and documentation. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced, growing pharmacy. + Customer service orientation with a focus on patient safety and satisfaction. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Previous experience working in a mail-order or central fill pharmacy environment. + Experience with insurance-related processes in pharmacy, including coordination of benefits and resolving coverage issues. + Experience in pharmacy quality assurance or continuous quality improvement initiatives. + Comfort working with pharmacy information systems and technology for data entry, verification, and documentation. + Interest in contributing to a rapidly growing organization where new roles and processes are being developed. + Motivation to participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with advances in pharmacy practice. Work Environment This role is based in a mail-order pharmacy environment that operates Monday through Friday during the day, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed. The position may involve working on a first or second shift, depending on operational requirements. You will primarily work outside of the production area, using a computer and phone to manage prescriptions, perform clinical reviews, and communicate with patients and providers. The pharmacy team currently includes three pharmacists and approximately twenty-two pharmacy technicians, reflecting a collaborative, team-oriented setting. The organization is actively expanding, including growth into additional physical space, offering opportunities to contribute to process improvements and the development of new roles. The culture emphasizes accessibility and support from leadership, a close-knit environment typical of a smaller but rapidly growing company, and a strong focus on quality, patient care, and operational excellence. Major holidays and weekends are typically off, supporting a consistent weekday schedule. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $69.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
