Summary:
Initiates and ensures the quality of pharmacy drug distribution services in all patient care areas. Assumes direct responsibility of direct medication distribution, IV admixtures, safety and efficacy of prescribed drug therapy in accordance with laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy by the appropriate state and federal agencies
Job Description:
Essential Core Responsibilities:
  • Practices in accordance with the state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, including but not limited to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration and adheres to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration, including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis, weight/body surface area, age, allergies, organ function, laboratory values, medication duplication, drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate, incomplete, or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner.
  • Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
  • Supervises the activities of students, technicians, and residents within the pharmacist area of practice, including checking medications such as compounded sterile products and prepared unit-dose medications, as needed.
  • Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses.
  • Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring, including follow-up and documentation, as well as other daily patient care initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy personnel.
Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department.
Level Specific Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the onboarding and training of new hires
  • Precepts and evaluates students and/or residents in institutional capacity.
  • Actively participates in continuous performance improvement activities of the department, including providing suggestions on how to improve day-to-day operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • 0-2 years experience
  • Active Pharmacist license in
Massachusetts Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hospital work experience
Pay Range:
$57.00 - $76.71 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
