GENERAL SUMMARY
Assures the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology. Serves as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provides guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership.

Our OB-GYNs/maternity care teams deliver a personalized birthing experience and advanced neonatal care for sick babies. We offer a range of minimally invasive procedures using robotic-assisted technology, imaging, and a inpatient rehabilitation center, all on one campus.
PRINCPLE DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES
Reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems. Recommends formulary alternatives when appropriate. Compounds and dispenses medications for accurate delivery to patients. Provides drug information and education to medical staff and patients. Communicates with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care. Oversees technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies. Assists with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students. May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs. Provides patient counseling when required. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must complete a residency training program or have equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice. PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program plus PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program or equivalent experience preferred Prior experience in ambulatory care pharmacist practice advancement preferred Prior experience in precepting pharmacy students and residents preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or the equivalent training and experience at another institution, preferred. Must have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed practice standards set for a Level II pharmacist. (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital Only) Must be able to serve as an institutional authority in a given specialty practice area. Must have demonstrable leadership abilities and exhibit teamwork when working with others. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. Should have a proven research/publication record. Must be qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacy Specialist position.
