Remote Pharmacist - Mail Order / Prior Authorization (Need to be able to commute to Shelby Township, Michigan when necessary) Job Description This remote pharmacist role supports a call center-driven mail order pharmacy by performing everyday pharmacist functions while subject matter experts prepare for an upcoming upgrade to ScriptMed Cloud. You will verify prescription orders, manage end-to-end prescription workflows, counsel patients, and collaborate with providers to clarify and optimize medication therapy. The position focuses on safe and accurate dispensing, clinical review, and patient education in a fully remote environment. Responsibilities Perform day-to-day pharmacist duties in a mail order pharmacy environment to support ongoing operations during a computer system upgrade to ScriptMed Cloud. Learn and perform order verification functions, ensuring accuracy and clinical appropriateness of prescriptions before dispensing. Manage the overall prescription workflow, including order intake, verification, and coordination with dispensing locations across the United States. Dispense prescription medications safely and accurately, following all applicable regulations and professional standards. Conduct clinical prescription verification, including review of dosing, interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic appropriateness. Provide patient counseling by phone, educating patients on proper medication use, potential side effects, and adherence strategies. Communicate with prescribers and other healthcare providers to clarify orders, resolve discrepancies, and address prior authorization requirements. Support a remote order processing team by performing data entry related to prescriptions, prior authorizations, and patient information. Participate in health and wellness-related counseling and provide guidance on healthy lifestyle choices as they relate to medication therapy. Oversee medication use for patients by monitoring prescription histories and ensuring consistent, safe medication management. Use computer systems and pharmacy software to document activities, process orders, and maintain accurate records in a call center-driven environment. Assist with prior authorization review processes for Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers, ensuring timely and accurate completion of requests. Essential Skills Active and valid pharmacist licensure. Pharmacist license in the state of Michigan (MI). Demonstrated experience performing core pharmacist functions, including dispensing, order verification, and patient counseling. Experience with prior authorizations, including review and processing for various payers such as Medicare and Medicaid. Strong computer skills and ability to work efficiently within pharmacy software and electronic workflows. Ability to work effectively in a call center-driven environment, handling patient and provider interactions by phone. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in clinical review, data entry, and documentation. Strong communication skills for counseling patients and collaborating with healthcare providers. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a remote setting while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a mail order pharmacy setting. Familiarity with ScriptMed Enterprise and ScriptMed Cloud or similar pharmacy management systems. Prior experience with remote or virtual pharmacy operations. Experience processing prior authorizations and working with Medicare and Medicaid plans. Proficiency in data entry within pharmacy systems and electronic health records. Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with defined workflows and metrics. Work Environment This role is 100% remote and requires a dedicated, quiet workspace at home suitable for confidential patient and provider communications. The position operates in a call center-driven mail order pharmacy environment, where you will support remote order processing and coordinate with dispensing locations across the United States. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will use computer-based pharmacy systems, including ScriptMed Enterprise/Cloud and other digital tools, to perform data entry, clinical verification, and telephonic counseling. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Shelby, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $63.00/hr.
