Job Description
Since 1972, Orlando Orthopaedic Center has remained independently owned and has grown to include 24 orthopaedic specialists across multiple subspecialties, many of whom are recognized leaders amongst their peers nationwide. The team at Orlando Orthopaedic Center delivers cost-effective, comprehensive coordinated patient care throughout Central Florida and beyond. We have nine Orlando Orthopaedic Center locations throughout Central Florida, plus a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center at the heart of our downtown campus located in the trendy SoDo Shopping District just south of downtown Orlando. To provide more immediate care, we have opened several orthopaedic injury walk-in clinics located throughout Orlando and the surrounding communities. For over 50 years, our team of physicians and support staff have been getting Central Floridians back to work, back to play and back to making a difference in our community.
POSITION
Pharmacy Assistant Responsible to: Clinical Resource SupervisorJOB SUMMARY
Provide clinical support by dispensing prescribed medications in-house for the Downtown Orlando location as well as handling specialty injection orders, outside medication prior-authorization requests, and medication refill requests. Assist with medication inventory management.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Pharmacy Technician Certification required One year of experience in retail pharmacy setting preferred Proficient using email and word processing software Knowledge of electronic health record software and digital imaging software preferred Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor Good communication skills Neat, professional appearance Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Medication Dispensing ▪ Receive written/electronic prescriptions through EHR and prepare the medication as prescribed by the Provider at the Downtown Orlando location (this includes prescriptions created at an office visit or requested via message) ▪ Ensure all EHR Pharmacy related messages and faxes received prior to 4:30 PM are processed prior to close of business ▪ Ensure all requests for prior authorization received from outside pharmacies prior to 4:30 PM are processed by using CoverMyMeds or via telephone prior to close of business ▪ Confirm the information on the prepared medication is complete, accurate, and matches what was prescribed by the Provider ▪ Enter patient demographics into the pharmacy software system, ensuring accuracy of information entered ▪ Provide prepared medication(s) to the prescribing Provider for verification and signature ▪ Ensure dispensing log is accurate and signed by the prescribing Provider within 2 business days ▪ Ensure all dispensed post-operative medications are prepared and provided to the surgery center (OOOSC) the day before the surgery (no later than 7:30 am on the same surgery date for last minutes add-ons), forward the medication log to the corresponding personnel at the surgery center daily, notifying them via the log if the physician did not order any medication and any other pertaining information Clinical Support ▪ Review failed electronic submitted prescriptions and re-submit as needed, notifying immediate supervisor of repetitive issues/patterns ▪ CheckE-FORCSE
when requested or applicable ▪ Notify the patient's Physician Team and Clinical Resource Supervisor of any prescription denials to help them determine a course of action and for documentation purposes ▪ Process patient medication refill requests in accordance with company policy ▪ Conduct a monthly inventory review of all labelled specialty injection kits and refrigerated medications and follow up with the Physician Teams regarding the status of the patient's course of treatment Administrative Duties ▪ Process reverse medications requests received from Branch Managers and/or Clinical Assistants within 12 hours from the time received and e-mail the Clinical Resource Supervisor the necessary information regarding reversed medications ▪ Ensure that cancelled surgery medications are returned to inventory and reversed in pharmacy software system accordingly ▪ Download and save medication inventory for all locations before 8 AM every Monday or at the beginning of each work week as requested by the Clinical Resource Supervisor ▪ Mark medications within 120 days of expiration with approved identifier in order to ensure timely dispensing before expiration ▪ Handle and log all expired medications, including from satellite offices, in the Expired Medication Log ▪ Place all expired medications in the expired bin and notify the Clinical Resource Supervisor for proper disposal ▪ Receive and organize medications according to the medication type, lot number, and expiration date ▪ Ensure that two employees verify all medications received (when not possible, advise Clinical Resource Supervisor) ▪ Report all medication related incidents to the Clinical Resource Supervisor (i.e., wrong sig dispensed, wrong medication) ▪ Maintain adequate inventory of Visco supplementations. Label and organize inside kits according to expiration date and keep log up to date. Identify with stickers the injections close to their expiration date to assure appropriate dispensing ▪ Ensure Visco supplementation outside kits are labeled with the appropriate "No Charge" sticker ▪ Ensure the security and proper storage of all medications is maintained ▪ Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phones, etc. ▪ Check for medication deliveries twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon ▪ Provide basic pharmacy/medication dispensing training on an intermittent basis as requested by the Clinical Resource Supervisor Other ▪ Maintain patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice ▪ Maintain detailed knowledge of computer software as it relates to job functions ▪ Attend CPR and OSHA training programs as required ▪ Comply and complete all mandatory compliance training provided by the practice ▪ Maintain certifications and registrations per state guidelines ▪ Attend all regular meetings ▪ Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the Clinical Resource Supervisor or a Physician ▪ Maintain a clean and orderly work environment Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Typical Physical Demands Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. May involve prolonged standing and walking for entire shift, Shift may extend over 8 hours in a given day. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours. Employee will be exposed to biohazard materials on a regular basis. Typical Working Conditions Employee will have some exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances (ie: cleaning products), medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.Job Type:
